    RCC Installation Safety Precautions While Working with Electricity Note: Before starting the installation procedures, the user should read the whole chapter for important information and safety warnings. Before installing and cabling the equipment, the user should be aware of standard safety practices and the hazards involved in working with electricity to avoid accidents.

    The Telesyn RCC mounts on the side of the user’s existing AFC240 RSC cabinet. Top and bottom mounting brackets are installed on the RCC. The RCC is lifted and mounted to the side of the AFC240. Power and wiring are connected between the AFC240 and the RCC. Subscriber loops are then extended into the RCC through an access conduit.

  • Page 19 In this step, the user will measure and mark the hole for the access conduit in the AFC240 cabinet. Measure and mark the center point for the conduit access hole on the AFC240 wall where the RCC will be mounted. Use the measurements detailed in the diagram in Figure 1-13.

  • Page 25 1-25. Install a rubber gasket onto the exposed end of the conduit on the outside of the AFC240 where it will contact the outer wall of the RCC. Ensure that the rubber gasket is fully seated onto conduit.See Figure 1-25.
  • Page 26 RCC Preparation Unpack the RCC and locate the top and bottom mounting brackets and hardware. The top mounting bracket is a flat ¼” thick plate with slotted holes in the top, the bottom mounting bracket is a 3” angle bracket. See Figure 1-26.
  • Page 27 RCC Preparation RCC Installation On the side of the RCC where the conduit access hole is drilled, remove the two flat-headed 6 mm screws at the top adjacent to the lifting eyebolts. See Figure 1-27. Screws detailed in Step 2...
  • Page 28 RCC Preparation Place the top mounting bracket on the RCC aligning the round holes with the locations where the two 6 mm screws were just removed. The keyhole slots should be at the top of the bracket and above the top of the RCC.

  • Page 30 Mount the bottom mounting bracket to the bottom of the cabinet using these two holes and two 10 mm bolts, lock washers, and flat washers. Ensure the bottom mounting bracket sticks out past the side of the RCC by about 1 & ¼ in. Only tighten the bolts finger tight. See Figure 1-30.

    Remove the plastic covers and clean out the four holes located in the top overhang of the AFC240 where the RCC will be mounted. Ensure that the bolts to be used for mounting the RCC will seat into these holes. See Figure 1-31.
  • Page 32 RCC Mounting Carefully lift the RCC, slide the keyholes in the top mounting bracket over the 4 bolts in the AFC240, and let it hang onto the AFC240. Be sure not to damage the conduit that is sticking out of the AFC240. It is neces- sary to hold the base of the RCC further away from the AFC240 during this operation.
  • Page 33 FIGURE 1-34 Mark and center punch the outer 4 holes on each end and the 2 holes in the center of the RCC bottom mount- ing bracket. This is where the ten, 1/4”, thread-forming bolts will be installed to secure the RCC bottom mounting bracket to the AFC240.

  • Page 35 RCC Mounting RCC Installation One bolt at a time, remove each of the 4 bolts securing the RCC top mounting bracket to the AFC240. Add a flat washer and a lock washer, then re-insert the bolt and hand tighten it.
  • Page 36 Bottom mount bracket detail FIGURE 1-38 Open the back door of the RCC and install the retaining ring onto the conduit that is now extending into the cabinet. Tighten securely with a spanning wrench or other appropriate method. See Figure 1-39 RCC view of access conduit installed.
  • Page 37 Only a qualified electrician familiar with local codes and ordinances should install AC power Install ground wiring using 6AWG copper wire onto the ground block of the RCC. Route the wire through the access conduit to the AFC240. Connect the ground wire to the ground bar in the AFC240. See Figure 1-40.
  • Page 38 FIGURE 1-41 Avoid accidental contact with AC source. Feed the MC metal-clad 14-2 AC conduit (MC 14-2) from the RCC through the access conduit into the AFC240. In the AFC240, remove the cover of AC load center. Do not remove the outlets that may be attached to the cover.
  • Page 39 If there is a vacant 13/16” (0.812”) knockout in the AC load center, remove it. If not, identify a desired entry point for feeding the AC wiring from the RCC into the AFC240 AC load center. Carefully move all AC wires inside the load center away from this area.
  • Page 40 Attach the white feed to the neutral bus bar inside the AC load center of the AFC240. Attach the black feed to the hot terminal of the 15 amp breaker that will control the feed to the RCC. See Fig- 1-46.

    In the AFC240, turn ON the 15A AC circuit breaker labeled Telesyn RCC. In the RCC, turn ON the circuit breaker AC TO RECTIFIER. AC TO RECTIFIER feeds AC to the rectifier. Verify that the rectifier fan is running. If the fan is not running, turn AC TO RECTIFIER OFF and:...

    Replace the plastic terminal cover. Verify that the heat exchanger fan is running. The heat exchanger is located on the back door of the RCC. The heat exchanger is equipped with two fans. One internal fan that operates continuously and one external fan that may or may not operate according to the inside temperature of the RCC.

Ensure customer power source for the product is off. FCC - The Allied Telesyn 7400 product complies with FCC require- ments for emissions radiation.

    Alarm wiring comes preinstalled. It is only necessary to plug in the RJ-45 plug. Connect the RJ-45 cable into the ALM IN port, and the ALM OUT port as required. The alarm output points are located on the RCC circuit breaker panel as illustrated in Figure 1-53.

    Ensure that the Telesyn 7400 shelf circuit breakers are OFF (O). Turn the RCC circuit breakers AC TO RECTIFIER, AC TO BTRY HTR, and DC TO BATTERY ON. Power is now being applied to the terminal block of the 7400, but not to the shelf components.

    1.7 Subscriber line installation for AFC240 RSC 1.7.1 Overview This section illustrates the wiring details of the customer loops in the Telesyn RCC. All subscriber DLC loops are routed from the AFC240 RSC through the Telesyn RCC. The following diagram illustrates the wiring path with no subscribers connected to DSL service.

    1.8.1 Installation and Maintenance 1.8.1.1 Battery Kit installation The batteries are installed in the lower back corner of the RCC below the circuit breaker junction box. This sec- tion describes the installation of the battery kit. The following steps that are required to complete the installation of the batteries.
