  • Page 15: Description

Description MSP-7 (Motion Sensing Probe) detects rotating, reciprocating, or conveying equipment. When connected to a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), it can warn of malfunction, sending signals to stop or slow down equipment, preventing costly failure or downtime. The single setpoint system suits most industrial applications. An NPN open collector 3-wire output allows for connection to most PLC models and a large dynamic range.

  • Page 17: Installing/Mounting

Installing/mounting Note Installation shall only be performed by qualified personnel and in accordance with local governing regulations. Location requirements Avoid strong magnetic fields (50/60 Hz) from nearby equipment, as these can affect performance. The probe design detects a changing magnetic field, typically caused by a ferromagnetic target that disturbs the magnetic field.
  • Page 18: Proper Mounting

Installing/mounting 4.2 Proper mounting Proper mounting Mount MSP-7 in a non-hazardous area that is clean, dry, and vibration-free, using the mounting flange. The environment must be within the probe's range of ambient temperature and non-corrosive to the probe's body. To prevent damage, ensure that the gap between the probe and target is large enough.
  • Page 19: Wiring

Installing/mounting 4.3 Disassembly 4.2.2 Wiring Interconnect the probe components via flexible conduit, where possible. This allows for easier removal or calibration of the probe and mounting flange assembly. Disassembly WARNING Incorrect disassembly The following risks may result from incorrect disassembly: - Injury through electric shock - Risk through emerging media when connected to the process - Risk of explosion in hazardous area...

  • Page 33: Technical Reference

Technical reference Principle of operation MSP-7 works on the principle of Faraday’s Laws of Electromagnetic Induction. When a ferromagnetic object enters the probe’s permanent magnetic field, it distorts the flux causing it to cut the coil windings and generate a voltage. This voltage is proportional to the following parameters: •...
  • Page 34 Technical reference A.1 Principle of operation Note 25.4 mm = 1 inch and 0.305 m = 1 ft The graph is plotted from tests using four ferrous blocks. These are set equidistantly on a 406 mm (16 inch) diameter circle, on a non-ferrous disc. The physical shape of the ferrous target becomes important at low velocities or large gaps.
