If your stand mixer malfunctions or fails to operate, check the following:
If the Flat Beater is not far enough into the bowl, or if it hits the bottom, the beater-to-bowl clearance needs adjustment. To correct this:
The stand mixer may emit a pungent odor, especially when new. This is common with electric motors.
If ingredients at the very bottom of the bowl are not thoroughly mixed, the beater may not be far enough into the bowl. You can adjust the beater-to-bowl clearance by turning screw (A) on page 15. Turn it clockwise to raise the bowl, which reduces beater clearance. Ensure the Flat Beater just clears the surface of the bowl when properly adjusted.
For cleaning, you should always unplug the mixer before cleaning. Wipe the mixer with a soft, damp cloth and do not immerse it in water. The bowl, white Flat Beater, and white Dough Hook can be washed in an automatic dishwasher or thoroughly cleaned in hot sudsy water and rinsed. The Wire Whip, burnished Dough Hook, and burnished Flat Beater should be hand washed and dried immediately. Do not store beaters on the shaft and frequently wipe off the beater shaft to remove any residue.
The stand mixer may become warm during use. This is normal, especially under heavy loads with extended mixing time, where you might not be able to comfortably touch the top of the mixer.
