Remote Connections with Fiber Cable
Fiber optic technology allows for longer cabling than any other
media type. With single-mode fiber, you can run links up to 20 km
(12.43 miles) using 100BASE-FX modules or up to 5 km
(3.10 miles) using 1000BASE-LX modules. The TigerSwitch can
serve as a collapsed backbone, providing direct connectivity for a
widespread LAN. The Gigabit module can be used for a
high-speed connection between floors in the same building, or to
connect to other buildings in a campus setting. The figure below
illustrates a TigerSwitch connecting multiple segments with fiber
cable.
