Instructions:
Step 1: To Remove Key Retaining Cartridge from Unit:
1. Open sliding cover (a) to reveal the dials and the release button (b).
Note: LED will light up once the cover is in the open position.
2. Rotate dials to the current combination (if the lock is new, the combination is
set at the factory to 0-0-0-0).
3. Grip key retaining cartridge (c) and then press down on the release button (b).
4. Key retaining cartridge will be freed from unit. Pull cartridge down to remove.
Step 2: To Set a New Combination:
1. Remove key retaining cartridge from main unit.
2. Remove mounting bracket (d) from main unit by pushing the tab (e) on the
mounting plate (f) up and sliding mounting bracket down and off.
3. Remove the two screws holding the mounting plate to main unit.
See "Back View with Mounting Plate."
4. Pull up on the mounting plate and take out.
*Your 5404D should look like the "Main Unit Back View"
*DO NOT REMOVE TWO BOTTOM SCREWS NEAR RESET LEVER*
The initial combination is set at the factory to 0-0-0-0.
A) Locate reset lever (h) on back of main unit.
B) Push the reset lever up and to the right. The lever remains in this position.
C) Rotate dials to your desired combination.
D) Push the reset lever, left and down, back to the original position.
E) Record new combination in blanks provided below and at
www.ComboLocker.com
5. Re-assemble components and test new combination:
A) Place mounting plate back into slot. Screw in top 2 screws.
B) Insert mounting plate tab into mounting bracket and push bracket up until
you hear a click (i).
C) Push key retaining cartridge back into slot.
D) Test new combo by pushing down on the release button.
Key cartridge should be freed.
Step 3: To Place Key Into Key Retaining Cartridge and Use Key:
1. Once the key retaining cartridge is removed from the main unit, a key can be
installed onto the cartridge.
2. Remove screw and washer from key retaining cartridge.
3. Align key hole with slider hole, insert screw and tighten (washer may be necessary
if hole is too big) (j).
To Use Key:
A) Insert key into door to unlock/lock and turn door knob.
B) Place key retaining cartridge back in main unit. (Unit must be set to correct
combination for insertion of key retaining cartridge).

You will need: pencil or marker, Phillips
head screwdriver, level, drill, and drill bit
(recommended size: 7/64" or 2.778mm).
For certain surfaces, masonry anchors (not-
included) and a hammer are recommended.
Polybag contains: 3 Wood (137-M3.5 x
16MM-S) type screws for installation to wall.

Step 4: To Mount Key Safe:
1. Remove mounting bracket (d) from main unit.
2. Position the mounting bracket (d) on the desired surface.
3. Use a level to verify the mounting bracket is vertical.
4. Mark the position of the screw holes on the surface. (k)
5. Remove mounting bracket.
*For Masonry Surfaces—optional, drill holes for anchors– tap into place with hammer.
6. Drill pilot holes (pre-holes). (Recommended drill bit size: 7/64" or 2.778mm).
7. Position mounting bracket.
8. Insert screw (l) and drill or tighten with a Philips screwdriver the screw in place.
Repeat steps for remaining two screws.
9. Locate main unit.
10. Insert mounting plate (on main unit)(f) into mounting bracket (d).
11. Slide unit down until you hear a click, mounting plate will snap into
mounting bracket.
12. Place key cartridge retainer into main unit.
13. Scramble the combination dials to lock the door and conceal your combination.
14. Close the sliding cover.
To Replace LED Batteries: (2 CR1220 Lithium Batteries)
1. Remove key retaining cartridge (e) and mounting bracket (d) from main unit.
2. Locate the battery cartridge on back, top right corner of the unit (g).
*Note: DO NOT REMOVE ANY SCREWS.
3. Pull battery cartridge out of slot.
4. Place new batteries (+ side up) "CR1220 [+] Side Up" should be facing up when
inserting batteries back in cartridge.
5. Slide battery cartridge into back of main unit.
Reminder:
*With a new combination, remember to scramble to dials to secure the key retaining
cartridge from being freed from the main unit.
*Keep the sliding cover closed to increase weather resistance, to conceal the dials
from view and preserve LED battery life.
