Dell - Latitude™ D620 - Printer-Friendly Format
The Latitude™ D620 ships with the new Intel® Core™ Duo and Core Solo processors, dual-
core and single-core processors, respectively. As with all newly designed processors, these
CPUs are not backwards compatible with older units. However, you can swap a single-core
with a dual-core processor since they share the same socket design and pinouts.
Unlike the newest desktop processors that use the Socket T design, the connector pins are
not located on the system board but are still found on the processor itself. This design is
more reliable for a mobile platform since the pins seat more securely. Take care not to bend
the pins when removing or replacing a processor.
For more information on these processors and their features, visit the
Technology" section.
Centrino® has been around for several years and is Intel's complete wireless solution.
Intel has released the next generation of Centrino, Centrino Duo. You still need an ISP to
access the Internet, however. Internet connections can be made with either wireless LAN
or wireless WAN (cellular) cards. Not all systems support wireless WAN cards.
For a system to bear the Centrino Duo logo, the system must contain the following
hardware:
Intel Core Duo processor
Intel Napa chipset
Intel wireless card
The thermal solution for the Latitude D620 is unique. In addition to a thermal pad that adheres to the bottom of the heat
sink, an additional EMI pad covers the entire processor. Since the heat sink itself does not fully cover the CPU chip, this
pad protrudes from the bottom of the heat sink.
Additionally, the heat sink is different depending on the video solution of the system. The discrete version has a different
design than the integrated solution, as seen below.
