The installation and use of electrification, mechanical and/or electrical drive devices (lifts, stairlift) or any other accessory not provided by Rehateam s.r.l. at the time of delivery may result in stresses that were not foreseen during product testing and therefore the integrity and complete safety of the product is not guaranteed.
  • Page 12 CAUTION! Do not exceed the pressure indicated on the tyre because you may damage the tyre and the inner tube. Always respect what indicated on the tyre. IMPORTANT! The front castors may also be of the "pneumatic" type; in this case, follow the same instructions.
  • Page 13 The parking brake is a safety device, and you must not use it while the wheelchair is moving as this could cause the wheelchair to tip over with possible injury to the occupant. IMPORTANT! To check the effectiveness of the brakes, apply them as described below depending on the type of brake, and, with the person sitting in the wheelchair, try to gently push the wheelchair.
  • Page 14 TYPE OF BRAKES 5.4.1 Curved lever push to lock brake To engage the brake, push the lever forward until it locks. To release the brake, pull the lever backward. The brake automatically returns to its resting position. 5.4.2 Straight lever push to lock brake To engage the brake, push the lever forward until it locks.

The brake automatically returns to its resting position. 5.4.4 Extended lever push to lock or pull to lock brake Push to lock brake: To engage the brake, push the lever forward until it locks.

  • Page 17 QUICK RELEASE REAR WHEELS The rear quick release wheels enable you to reduce the wheelchair’s bulk and save space, thus facilitating storage in the car or, if the wheelchair is equipped with the "narrow passage wheels" accessory, to reduce its width and length in order to access narrow spaces.
  • Page 18 Grasp the wheel by the spokes around the hub, press the release pin button with your thumb and, without releasing, extract the wheel fully. To fit the wheel, first release the brake. Slightly lift the wheelchair form the ground on one side by the backrest knob. With your hand, take hold of the rear wheel’s hub and, with your thumb, press the button of the quick release pin, keep it pressed and push the pin fully into its seat.
  • Page 19 5.6.1 Unfolding Place the palms of your hands on the seat posts, positions (1) and (2), and push them down until the wheelchair opens fully. After opening the wheelchair, carefully check that the seat posts are well inserted on the four supports (3). To make the operation easier, lift one rear wheel to reduce friction with the floor.
  • Page 20 5.6.2 Folding Remove the cushion or any other soft or rigid supports from the seat and the backrest. Raise the footrest (this operation is not necessary if the wheelchair is equipped with an automatic closure footrest). With both hands, pull up the seat fabric as shown in the image.   • Page 23 5.7.5 Single flip-up carbon fibre footrest Make sure that the locking pin (1) is properly inserted in the slot of support (2). The carbon fibre footrest can be swung 180°. To perform such operation, just raise the plate out of its locking support and turn it to the opposite position.
  • Page 24 CALF STRAP In some cases, depending on the diameter of the front wheel and the width of the wheelchair, the front wheel may come into contact with the heel of the occupant's foot when turning. To prevent this contact and prevent the wheelchair from tipping over, the wheelchair is equipped with a heel strap that must be adjusted so that the occupant's feet never come into contact with the front wheels.

Always check that the armrests are secured when they are in their operating position (1) (facing forwards and parallel with the sides of the wheelchair). In all other positions (except whenlocked in their rear-facing position), they are free to turn and for this reason, you should always ensure that they are correctly positionedbefore using the wheelchair.

  • Page 31 5.10.4 Armrest Desk Progeo This type of armrest is very practical and can be removed completely, making it much easier to move the wheelchair and transport it. Furthermore, the armrests also comprise a straight clothing guard. POSITION OF USE To check that the armrest is coupled correctly, take hold of the pad (1) with one hand and pull it up.
  • Page 32 WARNING! Always check the armrests are securely locked in their using position. If this instruction is ignored, the armrest may disengage and the occupant may fall from the wheelchair. Be careful not to pinch or crush your fingers when fully lowering the armrest pad.
  • Page 33 REMOVAL/INSERTION To remove the armrest, first swing it back to remove it. At this point, rotate the armrest by about 45° to reach the only point where removal is possible. Remove the armrest by pulling it upward. NOTE: at other points, the axle (9) cannot slide vertically along the support (10).
  • Page 34 ADJUSTMENT The occupant can also easily adjust the armrest height. Push the slider (12) forward, hold it and then raise or lower the armrest until it reaches the new height. Release the slider (12) and couple it in one of the holes (13) on the tube. WARNING! Always check the armrests are securely locked in their using position.
  • Page 35 5.10.6 Extractable armrest This type of armrest is very practical and can be removed completely, making it much easier to move the wheelchair and transport it. Furthermore, the removable armrests also comprise a straight clothing guard. POSITION OF USE The correct position of use (1) of the armrest is attained when the shaft (2), once inserted into the support (3), and is secured by bolt (4) driven into the cavity (5)..
  • Page 36 5.11 CLOTHING SIDE GUARD The clothing guards can be in plastic or, much more resistant, in carbon fibre. They can be of the “mudguard” type (1) or “straight” (2). Should the lateral clothing guard be of the type “mudguard”, these are originally fixed with its edge at approximately 5 mm above the tyre (3) to prevent the occupant from inserting his/her fingers between tyre and mudguard.
  • Page 37 Failure to observe this warning could result in damage to the occupant, third parties or the vehicle, for which Rehateam s.r.l. shall not be liable. 5.12.2 Wheelchair lifetime Progeo wheelchairs are used on a daily basis and they are consequently subject to continuous stress that causes inevitable wear and tear of the parts.
  • Page 38 WARNING! Rehateam s.r.l. will not be liable for failure to comply with the instructions or recommendations set out in this manual and any such activity will result in the immediate cancellation of the manufacturer's warranty.
  • Page 39 PREVENT ACCIDENTS 6.1.1 Movements Avoid sudden, jerky movements when using the wheelchair as this could cause it to overbalance. If your path is obstructed by obstacles, avoid sudden movements (such as abrupt braking). There is increased risk of skidding on irregular or damp ground.
  • Page 40 WARNING! When using the brakes, great care should be taken to avoid injury to the hands or fingers. MOVEMENTS: GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR Wheelchair transfers must always be performed with extreme care and caution, even by experienced occupants, and only after receiving instruction from fully trained specialists.
  • Page 41 (1) Lean on the wheelchair and, where possible, on a stable object nearby. Use the force of your arms to raise and move your body. (2) If the occupant is not able to perform this movement alone, or if the movement is to be performed on an uneven surface, a carer should lend help.
  • Page 42 STARTING TO DRIVE YOUR WHEELCHAIR FINDING THE CENTRE OF GRAVITY Your ability to control and safely tip the wheelchair mainly depends on your seating position and the location of the centre of gravity with respect to the rear wheels. The correct position of the rear wheels depends on different factors such as the occupant’s weight, type of disability and the occupant’s driving skills.

If you hang a backpack, a bag or any other object on the push handlebars or any rear area of the wheelchair, the resulting uneven weight distribution can significantly affect the risk of overbalancing. TO PREVENT THE WHEELCHAIR FROM OVERBALANCING DURING NORMAL USE, WE RECOMMEND FITTING AN ANTI-TIPPING SYSTEM.
  • Page 44 6.4.1 Going up and down a step by yourself GOING DOWN Take the wheelchair right up to the obstacle so that the front wheels are as close as possible to it. Raise the front castors by tilting the wheelchair while maintaining balance. Slide the rear wheels very carefully over the edge.
  • Page 45 6.4.2 Negotiating a step with a carer GOING DOWN Take the wheelchair right up to the obstacle so that the front wheels are as close as possible to it. Grip the rear handles tightly and push down to raise the front of the wheelchair.
  • Page 46 GOING UP AND DOWN A SERIES OF STEPS DANGER! In the case of stairs with more than one step, two assistants are always required. The first assistant stands behind the wheelchair and holds the push handles. The second assistant grasps a fixed part of the front frame, guiding the wheelchair manoeuvre from the front.
  • Page 47 GOING UPHILL Driving up any kind of slope should be done with extreme care. The occupant must move at speed by generating force on the rear wheel while at the same time maintaining control over the wheelchair. Lean forwards and keep your weight forward in the chair to prevent the wheelchair from tipping over backwards.
  • Page 48 To achieve maximum occupant control of the wheelchair, we illustrate some situations which may emerge during normal daily use of the wheelchair. Please pay particular attention to the following to maintain balance and stability at all times. WARNING! Do not lean too far forward; you may fall out of the wheelchair. Do not move forward by sliding your pelvis across the seat cushion to reach objects that are too far away: you could fall off the wheelchair.
  • Page 49 LEANING BACKWARDS Ensure that the front castors are pointing forwards. To do this, move the wheelchair forwards and then backwards. Do not apply the parking brakes. Lean backwards without changing your sitting position. LYING SIDEWAYS Do not move your upper body beyond the rear wheel as the wheelchair could overbalance.
  • Page 50 TRASPORT OF THE WHEELCHAIR There is no single best way to load the wheelchair into a vehicle. Factors include the type and degree of the occupant’s disability (his/her ability to control his/her upper body, arm, and hand movements), physical strength (the operation may be too difficult for an older person or a child) and the type of vehicle that will be used.
  • Page 51 TRASPORT OF THE OCCUPIED WHEELCHAIR Always make sure the wheelchair is suitable to transporting the user in a vehicle. The symbols on the product label indicate if the wheelchair is or not crash tested and, accordingly, if it can be used for the transport of the user on a motor vehicle.
  • Page 52 In larger means of transport, you can load the wheelchair without reducing its encumbrance. LOADING THE WHEELCHAIR WITHOUT ASSISTANCE The following actions are intended for people with good control of their upper body, arms, and hands as well as sufficient strength to perform the movements in complete safety.

  • Page 56 10 ACCESSORIES 10.1 GENERAL INFORMATION Each model can be equipped with various accessories that should be evaluated according to the needs of the occupant and assistant. Some of the images in this manual may show a wheelchair model different from the reference one. However, all instructions are applicable, regardless of the model differences.
  • Page 57 WARNING! For a correct assembly of the transit wheel, remember that when inserting it into the support, the pin (1) should always face toward the inside of the wheelchair. Remember that while using the transit wheels (with the rear wheels removed), the parking brakes will not work at all.
  • Page 58 To return the anti-tipping device to its position of use, repeat the same steps as described above. REMOVAL/INSERTION To remove the anti-tip wheel, push the pin (6) that you find in the upper side of the support (6) push the post down. To put the anti-tip wheel on, insert the part (7) of the support in the hole of the part (4) and turn the post until the two parts locks together.

  • Page 60 10.5 TIPPING AID This accessory has been designed to enable the assistant to tip back the wheelchair without a great effort to facilitate negotiating small steps. With one foot, press down on the plastic support (1) while, at the same time, applying downward force onto the push handles on the backrest (2).
  • Page 61 10.7 FOLDING PUSH-HANDLES When folded down, these push handles reduce the wheelchair’s overall volume and reduce possible interference with the occupant’s arms when self- propelling the wheelchair. When in the operating position (1), they act just like normal handles. To fold the handle down, press pin (2), just beneath the handle and swing the handle down (3).
  • Page 62 WARNING! Checking the quick release axles of the rear wheels is one of the procedures that the occupant should perform periodically. If the pins are not properly fitted, the rear wheel may come off during use, resulting in the wheelchair tipping over and possible injury to the occupant. See also chapter 5.5 QUICK RELEASE REAR WHEELS.
  • Page 63 10.10 TRAY This accessory can be assembled only if the wheelchair is equipped with armrests. To install the tray, loosen bolt (1) of the support (2) on each side of the wheelchair until the hole is free to let the post go through. Insert the posts (3) parallel into the supports and slide the tray in to the desired depth.
  • Page 64 10.11 PELVIC BELT AND HARNESS Both the pelvic belt and the harness are accessories to this model and must therefore be ordered separately. Both these belt systems are designed to assure the occupant greater safety and stability while seated in the chair. IMPORTANT!   • Page 65 The harness (3) holds the occupant's torso to the wheelchair through two attachment points located at the waist level and two more at the shoulder level. The occupant’s entire upper body is secured to the seat. It is intended for use by occupants with particularly limited upper body mobility.
  • Page 66 10.12 LUMBAR SUPPORT This is a pad that offers extra support to the lumbar area. To position the lumbar support, raise the backrest upholstery on its front side. Using the Velcro fastener, attach the lumbar support either to the backrest upholstery or to the backrest bands at the required height.
  • Page 67 10.13 HEADREST A A3 2 This accessory is designed to support to head. It is suitable for folding wheelchairs; in fact, this type of headrest has a folding structure. When you unfold the wheelchair, the headrest unfolds, too. To put the headrest in its operating position (1), pull it up until the two posts (2) are tilted downward, starting from the central block (3).
  • Page 68 10.14 LATERAL SUPPORT This accessory is designed support the occupant’s torso. This lateral support is of the “swing-away” type so it can be swung it back. Turn the lever (1) by 90° and swing the lateral support to the opposite position where it will automatically lock.

  • Page 70 10.15.5 Single-drive wheels This accessory enables the occupant to push and control the wheelchair using only one rear wheel. This wheel is provided with two independent hand rims: the larger one controls the wheel on the same side whereas the smaller drives the opposite wheel via shaft (1).
  • Page 71 10.15.6 22” and 24” wheels equipped with drum brakes This accessory enables the carer to brake the wheelchair also when it is in motion. It is very useful on slopes along which may be difficult for the wheelchair to negotiate. To brake the wheelchair, just pull up the lever (1) that is fixed on each push handle.
  • Page 72 10.16 HAND RIM Special hand rims are available for this Progeo wheelchair model. Their special features ensure improved grip and therefore a more efficient pushing motion, especially for occupants with limited strength or mobility of the hands and fingers. Polished aluminium 2.

In general, the larger the diameter and width of the wheel, the easier it will be to negotiate rough terrain and small obstacles such as stones, small height differences of the order of 1 cm.
  • Page 75 10.20 VANITY FLAP (seat/backrest bonding canvas) With this accessory you can affix the backrest upholstery to the seat canvas; it is useful for avoiding a possible backward sliding of a cushion that is not properly fixed to the seat. The application of this vanity flap is quite simple; by means of the male Velcro straps present, simply attach it to the inside of the backrest upholstery and to the female Velcro seat canvas straps.
