- Page 5 All the strings should be wound in the same way (on single-sided headstocks) which facilitates tuning the instrument. In the case of new tuners that do not have a slot with a hole, for safety reasons the free ends of the strings should be cut off at a distance of about 0.5 cm behind the tuning peg.
