Battery

WARNING
Risk of fire.
K e e p f u e l a n d o t h e r f l a m m a b l e
s u b s t a n c e s a w a y f r o m e l e c t r i c
components.
Never invert the battery cables.
Ensure that the ignition switch is in the
" position before connecting or
"
disconnecting the battery, otherwise
some components might damage.
Connect the positive cable (+) first and
then the negative cable (-).
Disconnect in the reverse order.
CAUTION
This vehicle is fitted
with a maintenance-free battery which
seldom needs inspecting and may need
charging from time to time.
Disconnect the terminals if the vehicle is to
be left unused for a long period.
CHECKING AND CLEANING THE
TERMINALS
Carefully read page 45 (Battery)
Ensure the ignition switch is in the " "
position.
Remove
the
seat,
see
(GLOVE/TOOL KIT COMPARTMENT).
Slide the red protective cap (1) aside.
Make sure that the cable terminals and
the battery terminals are:
√ in good condition (and not corroded or
covered with deposits);
√ c o v e r e d w i t h n e u t r a l g r e a s e o r
Vaseline.
If necessary:
Remove the battery, see page 45

(REMOVING THE BATTERY)

Clean off cable and battery terminals
with a wire brush to remove all traces of
corrosion.

Remove the seat.
Release and remove the negative (-)
terminal screw.
Move aside the negative cable.
Slide the red protective cap (1) aside.
Release and remove the positive (+)
terminal screw.
Move aside the positive cable.
Remove the battery retaining grommet
(2).
