STARTING

WARNING
This vehicle should be used gradually
and with utmost care. Do not store any
objects on the handlebars as this could
impair handlebar movement or hide the
instrument panel from your vision.
CAUTION
Before starting the
engine, carefully read section "Safe Rid-
ing", see page 5 (SAFE RIDING).

WARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon monox-
ide, which is extremely toxic if inhaled.
Do not start the engine in an enclosed
space or poorly ventilated area. Failure
to observe this warning may lead to
loss of consciousness or even death by
asphyxia.
Check parking brake operation, see
page 33 (PARKING).
Sit astride the vehicle.

Turn the key and set the ignition switch
to position ≈ ∆.
Check that the red ≈Mixer oil re-

page 21 (MIXER OIL RESERVOIR).
If the yellow ≈Fuel reserve∆ light

( ) comes on, refuel as soon as possi-
ble.
Check that the green ≈Neutral∆ ( )

light comes on. If a gear is engaged, it is not
possible to start the engine.
Press the starter button " " (1) - do not
open the throttle yet - and release the
button as soon as the engine starts.
CAUTION
Do not press the starter button " " for
more than fifteen seconds at a time or it
will draw too much current from the bat-
tery. If the engine does not start within
fifteen seconds, wait ten seconds and
then press the button " " again.
CAUTION
Avoid pressing the starter button " "
with the engine running or you will dam-
age the starter motor.
Engage the parking brake and do not
open the throttle until before moving off.
