Drive chain

CAUTION
A wrong adjustment of the chain might
damage the chain and the adjustment
screw.
Periodically check the chain slack and
adjust, if necessary.
Have the chain adjusted and replaced at
an Aprilia Authorised Dealeronly, for
guaranteed accurate, prompt service.
Improper maintenance may lead to early
wear of the chain and/or front/rear
sprocket damage.
CAUTION
maintenance operations more frequently
than the indicated intervals if you are riding
in rainy or dusty conditions, on rough road
surfaces or when the vehicle is used for
racing.

CHAIN SLACK INSPECTION
To check chain slack:
Stop the engine.
Remove the chain tensioner (1) check
that the vertical slack in the chain upper
section, in an intermediate point between
rear and front sprocket, is approximately
1 5 - 2 0 m m

Move the vehicle forward so to check the
chain vertical slack even at other
positions; the slack should be the same
with the wheel at any position.
Refit the chain tensioner (1).
CAUTION
If slack is greater at particular positions
of the chain, it means that some links
are warped or have seized. In this case,
contact an Aprilia Authorised Dealer.
To prevent seizure, lubricate the chain
frequently.
Chain slack must be adjusted whenever it
differs from the specified value, even when
it is consistent at all positions of the chain.

If the chain needs adjusting after the
inspection, proceed as follows:
Loosen the 4 screws (2).
Partially loosen lock nut (3) on tensioner.
Adjust chain tension by turning screw
(4).
After the adjustment, tighten the lock nut
(3).
Tighten the 4 screws (2).
Check
specified values.
