REMOVAL THE BATTERY
COVER
Carefully read page 73 (BATTERY).
NOTE
Place the vehicle on a flat, hard
surface.
♦
Make sure that the ignition switch is set to
"
".
♦
Lift the saddle, see page 39 (LOCKING/
RELEASING THE SADDLE).
♦
Remove the rug lining the helmet compart-
ment.
♦
Unscrew and remove the two screws (1).
♦
Slide the battery cover (2) out from below,
being careful with the upper tabs (3).
♦
Disconnect the electrical connector (4) for
the helmet compartment lighting.
♦
Remove the battery cover (2).

CHECKING AND CLEANING
TERMINALS
♦
Remove the battery cover, see alongside
(REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER).
♦
Make sure that the ignition switch is set to
"
".
♦
Make sure that the battery cable terminals
(5) are:
– in good condition (not corroded or en-
crusted with deposits);
– covered with neutral grease or Vaseline.
If necessary:
♦
Disconnect the negative (-) and positive
(+) cables in order.
♦
Clean with a wire brush to remove any
traces of corrosion.
♦
Connect the positive (+) and negative (-)
cables in order.
♦
Coat the terminals with neutral grease or
Vaseline.

REMOVING THE BATTERY
♦
Remove the battery cover, see alongside
(REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER).
♦
Remove the battery bleed tube (6).
♦
Slide the battery (7) out of its seat, turning it
slightly to the right as shown by the arrow.
♦
Disconnect the negative cable (-) and posi-
tive cable (+), in that order.
♦
Remove the battery (7) completely from its
housing and place it on a flat surface, in
un cool, dry place.
WARNING
The removed battery must be stored in a
safe place and out of the reach of chil-
dren.
♦
Replace the battery cover, see alongside
(REMOVAL THE BATTERY COVER).
CAUTION
Handle with extreme care, since without
bleeding it may leak electrolyte.
