PREPARATION

1. Add the power cord to your steam generator.
   • The power cord for your steam generator is not directly connected to the steam generator when you open your package. You'll find the cord separately in the package.
   • Before using your steamer for the first time, make sure you plug the power cord into the hole on the underside of the unit - fig. 2.
     
   • Make sure it is correctly inserted - fig. 1, fig. 2.
     
   • Once installed, do not remove it - fig. 3.
     
2. Safety lock
   • Your steam station is equipped with a safety lock that holds the iron on to the base unit in order to facilitate transport and storage:
   • Pull up – fig. 4.
     
   • Push down – fig. 5.
     
     • place the iron on the iron rest of the steam station and lock it into place (you will hear an audible "click" sound) – fig. 4.
     • Hold the iron by its handle in order to transport your steam station - fig. 6.
       The safety lock allows you to carry your steam station by the iron handle:
       
       
3. Preparing your steam station
   • Place the steam station on a flat, stable, horizontal and heat-resistant surface.
   • Fill the tank with untreated tap water, taking care not to exceed the maximum level - fig. 8-9-10-11.
     
     
   • Take the electrical cord in your hand and remove the steam cord from its housing- fig.12-13.
     
     
   • Plug your steam station into a 120 volt electric outlet - fig.14.
     

USE

4. Switching on your steam station
   • Press on the on / off button - fig. 15, The ON button begins flashing.
     
   • When starting, and regularly while it is being used, your steam station's electric pump injects water into the boiler. It makes a noise but this is quite normal.
   • The steam station and the iron are ready for use when the ON button light is on and the iron light goes out.
     During initial use, you may notice some fumes, a harmless odour and a slight release of particles. This phenomenon, which has no effect on use, will quickly disappear.
5. Using your steam station
   • Place the iron's temperature control - fig. 16 to the type of fabric to be ironed (see table below).
     
   • The iron temperature control light turns on.
     
     whenever you start using your iron and whenever you reduce the temperature during use, the iron is ready for use when its indicator light goes out and when the green light located on the control panel comes on and remains on.
     
   • During use, when you increase the temperature of the iron, you can start ironing immediately.

• ECO Mode: Your steam station has an ECO mode function which uses less power whilst still guaranteeing a sufficient steam output for you to iron your garments properly.
  
  In order to use this function, once the thermostat of your iron has been correctly set (see table above), press on the ECO button located on the control panel.
  The ECO mode can be used on all types of fabrics, nevertheless for very thick or very creased fabrics we recommend that you deactivate ECO mode (by pressing the MAX button) to guarantee the best results.
• During ironing the iron indicator light switches on and off according to heating requirements but this has no effect on use.
• To obtain steam, press on the steam trigger beneath the iron handle and keep it pressed - fig. 18. The steam will stop when you release the trigger.
  
• Always spray starch on the reverse side of the fabric to be ironed.
• Steam boost: In order to activate automatically 3 shots of steam, please press the trigger 3 times - fig.21. *Precision shot button: In order to activate the precision shot button, press the button on top of the handle fig. 22. (depending on models)
  Recommendations: To prime the steam circuit, either before using the iron for the first time, or if you have not used the steam function for a few minutes, press the steam trigger several times in a row – fig.18, holding the iron away from your clothes. This will enable any cold water to be removed from the steam circuit.
  Iron temperature control setting: Your iron is quick to heat up so start with fabrics to be ironed at a low temperature and finish with those which need higher temperatures. Mixed fibre fabrics: set the ironing temperature to the setting for the most delicate fabric. For delicate fabrics (•), press the steam trigger (under the handle of the iron) intermittently to avoid any water droplets appearing with the steam. If you set your thermostat to "min", the iron will not become hot.
  When taking a break from ironing, never place the iron on a metal rest plate, which could damage the iron rest plate of the unit. It is equipped with non-slip pads and has been designed to withstand high temperatures.
  

6. Vertical steam ironing

• Set the temperature of the iron to the max position.
• Hang the garment on a coat hanger and hold the fabric slightly taut with one hand.
• Press repeatedly on the steam - fig.18 steam trigger (beneath the iron handle) moving the iron from top to bottom - fig. 19.
  Examples of how to use the vertical steaming function:
  
• Removing creases directly on hangers from delicate fabrics that you do not want to bring into contact with the hot iron.
• Refreshing a shirt or a suit just before putting it on.
  As steam is very hot: never attempt to remove creases from a garment while it is being worn, always hang garments on a coat hanger. For fabrics other than linen or cotton, hold the iron a few centimetres from the garment to avoid burning the fabric.- fig. 23
  

7. Dry ironing

• Do not press the steam trigger.

8. Fill the water tank again

• When there is no more steam and the "Water tank empty" light flashes - fig. 20: the water tank is empty.
  
• Press the ON / OFF button. Unplug your product.
• fill the water tank - fig. 8-9-10-11 do not fill above the Max level If this occurs, remove the excess water.
• Plug your product. Press the ON / OFF button located on the control panel. Press the Restart button located on the control panel. The red light turns off.
• The steam station and the iron are ready for use when the ON button light is on and the iron temperature control light goes out.

9. Storing the steam station
   • Turn off the appliance and unplug it. Place the iron on the iron rest on the steam station. Lock the iron onto the base unit by pressing it until you hear an audible "click", so your iron is secure – fig 4. wrap the cord under the product by winding it.
   • Leave the steam station to cool for at least one hour before putting it away if it is to be stored in a cupboard or confined space. You can then store your steam station safely.
10. «AUTO-OFF» System
    • For your safety, the steam generator is fitted with an «AUTO-OFF» monitoring system, which is activated automatically after approximately 8 minutes without use.
      
    • Only the «ON-OFF» button flashes to indicate that the appliance is on standby.- fig. 34
      
    • To reactivate the steam generator:
      • Press the «ON-OFF» button.- fig. 35
        
      • Wait for the «ON» button light to stop flashing before starting your ironing again.
    • For your safety, after approximately 30 minutes of non-use, the «AUTO-OFF» system switches off your steam generator. To start your ironing again, press the «ON-OFF» button.- fig. 36-37-38.
      
      

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

Do not use any cleaning or descaling products for cleaning the soleplate or the base-unit. Never hold the iron or the base unit under the tap.

11. Cleaning the station
    • The iron soleplate: Unplug the appliance and clean the soleplate of your iron when it is cool with a damp cloth or a non abrasive sponge.
    • The base unit: Clean the plastic parts of the appliance occasionally with a soft cloth.
12. Easy descaling of your steam station
    Do not use any descaling substances (vinegar, industrial descaling products, etc.) when rinsing the scale collector: they could damage it.
    Before emptying your steam station, it must always be left to cool for 2 hours to avoid any risks of scalding.
    The water in the appliance may still be hot and cause burns even after 2 hours of cooling down. Handle the appliance with care when then collector is removed, particularly when you are emptying it.
    • To extend the life of your steam station and avoid scale on your ironing, your steam station is equipped with a built-in scale collector. This collector, located in the boiler, automatically removes the scale that forms inside.
      Operation:
    • An orange "Anti-Calc button" light located - fig. 24 on the control panel starts flashing to tell you that the scale collector needs rinsing.
      
    • Once the steam station has cooled completely, remove the scale collector - fig. 26.
      
      
      This operation must not be carried out unless the steam station has been unplugged for at least two hours and has cooled down completely. To carry out this operation, the steam station must be close to a sink as water may come out of the tank when it is opened. - fig. 25.
      
    • Unscrew the scale collector and remove it from the housing; it contains the scale that has built up in the tank - fig. 26-27.
      
    • To clean the collector properly, just rinse it under running water to remove the scale it contains - fig. 28.
      
    • Put the collector back into its housing and screw it in completely to keep it watertight - fig. 29-30.
      
      
      
      The next time you use your iron, press the "Restart OK button" button on the control panel to turn off the orange "ANTI-CALC button" light.
      Twice a year:
      In addition to this regular maintenance procedure, we recommend that you rinse the boiler completely once every 6 months, or once every 25 times you use your steam station.
    • Make sure that the steam station has been unplugged and allowed to cool for at least 2 hours. - fig. 39.
      
    • Place the steam station on the edge of your sink and the iron to one side, on its heel.
    • unscrew the scale collector - fig. 40-41.
      
    • Hold your steam station at an angle and use a jug to fill the boiler with 1/4 litre of tap water.- fig. 42.
      
    • Shake the base unit for a few seconds then empty it completely into the sink.fig. 43-44.
      
    • Fit the collector back in its housing and screw it on tightly to ensure it is watertight but do not overtighten it - fig. 45-46.
      
      The steam station does not work without the scale collector.
      Regular descaling of your steam station helps to maintain its steam performance over time

IS THERE A PROBLEM?

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When using your appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING

1. Use appliance only for its intended use.
2. To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
3. The appliance should always be turned off before plugging or unplugging from electrical outlet. Never pull the cord to disconnect from outlet, instead grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
4. Do not let the power cord touch hot surfaces. Let the steam station cool completely before putting it away. Wind up the power cord and attach it with the Velcro.
5. Always disconnect appliance from electrical outlet when filling or emptying water and when not in use.
6. Do not operate appliance with a damaged cord or if appliance has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the appliance. Contact Rowenta Consumer Services or take it to a qualified service person for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the appliance is used after reassembly.
7. Close supervision is required for any appliance used by or near children. Do not leave the iron unattended while the appliance is connected or on an ironing board.
8. Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water or steam. Use caution when you turn appliance upside down. There may be hot water in the reservoir.
9. This is a 1800 watts appliance. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate appliance on the same circuit with another high wattage appliance.
10. If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a cord with 15A or greater shall be used. A cord rated for less amperage can result in a risk of fire or electric shock due to overheating. Care shall be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or be tripped over.

For your safety, this appliance conforms to the applicable standards and regulations (Low Voltage, Electomagnetic Compatibility, Environmental Directives, as applicable...).
Your appliance is an electrical appliance: it must be used in normal conditions of use. It is fitted with 2 safety systems:

• A pressure release valve which, in the event of a malfunction, releases any excess steam.
• A thermal fuse to prevent the appliance from overheating. Always plug your appliance into:
• An electrical installation with voltage 120V. Connecting to the wrong voltage may cause irreparable damage to the appliance and will invalidate your guarantee.
• If the appliance is fitted with Polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other): to reduce the risk of electric shock, the appliance is fitted with polarized plug. This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

• The appliance must not be left unattended while it is connected to the outlet.
• The plug must be removed from the outlet before the water reservoir is filled with water.
• The appliance must be used and rested on a stable surface.
• When placing the appliance on its stand, ensure that the surface on which the stand is placed is stable.
• The appliance is not to be used if it has been dropped, if there are visible signs of damage or if it is leaking.
• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• Do not direct steam at people, animals or iron clothes while they are being worn.
• "Calc Away-System": Always wait before rinsing the collector until the steam station has cooled down and has been unplugged for at least 2 hours before unscrewing the collector. If you lose or damage the scale collector, have it replaced by calling Rowenta Consumer Services.
• Never attempt to unscrew the scale collector while the appliance is in use.
  The strong steam pressure could results in burns. Only unscrew the collector when the appliance is cold (2 hours) or there is no more pressure in the boiler.

WHAT WATER SHOULD I USE?

• This appliance has been designed to be used with untreated tap water. If your water is very hard, (hardness above 30°F, or 17°dH or 21°e) use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water. In some seaside regions, salt content might be high. In that case, use only water bottle, with low mineral level.
• They are different type of softened water, and most of them can be used in your appliance. However, some of them, especially the one with chemical components, like salt, might occur white or brown runs. If you face this type of issue, we recommend you to use nontreated tap water or bottled water.
• You should not use water from domestic appliances, with additives (starch, perfume, etc.), rain water, boiled, filtered, bottled water. Do not use pure distilled nor pure demineralized water. Such water might affect steam attributes and at high temperature generate steam chamber sediment, liable to stain your linen and cause early appliance aging.
