INTRODUCTION
Coolaroo's Signature Color Commitment
Correct installation is essential to ensure your new shades continue to look and function great for years. Please review this booklet carefully and follow the step-by-step instructions and troubleshooting guidance.
Coolaroo's Signature outdoor textiles are where sustainability meets style. Offering the widest range of outdoor roller shade colors, our unique sun-safe, toxin-free fabric is infused with pigments mixed directly as the material forms. Which means we don't do any post-fabrication dyeing and our yarns aren't superficially adhered with color. Our fabrics ARE the color. So, you can expect lasting, day-one vibrancy through years of rain or shine.
Driven by Safety & Comfort
Our fabric and hardware technology constantly evolves to deliver shade systems that provide you with weather protection and relief. From cool-touch fabric to ergonomic operating mechanisms, we want you to prioritize enjoying every outside area of your home and leave any sun worries to us.
Going Beyond Expectations
Our hardware and Signature fabrics are tested in extreme environments and the hottest climates to consider effects beyond the sun. Our materials are mold and mildew resistant, so your home and family stay safe in high-humidity climates. We also salt spray test our hardware so you can be confident every part of your Coolaroo roller shade will withstand the intense heat of the sun, the smallest salt grain, and everything in between.
Easy, Breezy Care
Our roller shades' cutting-edge performance textiles have redefined the demands of fabric care. Coolaroo's stain-resistant yarns can be easily cleaned with mild soap or non-abrasive cleaners, hosed down with water, and left to air dry. Gone is the need for rigorous cleaning and unhealthy solvent solutions. For full details on how to get the most out of your Coolaroo roller shade, visit Coolaroo.com/care.

MEASURING MARKING DISTANCE: Standard Shade Only
The Marking Distance is from the center of the shade to each bracket. To calculate Marking Distance, you will need to know the Bracket-to-Bracket Distance. The Bracket-to-Bracket Distance is the distance between the outside edges of the brackets that hold the shade in place.
- Determine the desired center of the shade opening and mark the center (fig. A).
![Coolaroo - Custom - MEASURING MARKING DISTANCE MEASURING MARKING DISTANCE]()
- Calculate and write down your purchased shades Bracket-to-Bracket Distance:
For OUTSIDE Mount = Ordered width.
For INSIDE Mount = Ordered width minus 1⁄8". - Determine and write down your Marking Distance: The Marking Distance is from the center of the shade to each bracket. To calculate Marking Distance, take your Bracket-to-Bracket Distance and divide by 2.
FOR EXAMPLE: An inside mount shade with ordered width of 96" would have a Bracket-to-Bracket distance of (96" – 1⁄8") = 95 7⁄8" and a Marking Distance of (95 7⁄8" ÷ 2) = 47 15⁄16". - Measure from the center point to each bracket end using the Marking Distance calculated and mark the ends. Confirm the distance between both ends equals the Bracket-to-Bracket Distance of your shade. If not, adjust end marks equally until it is.
INSTALLATION
STANDARD Shade — TOP Mount
The installation brackets are supplied in pairs: Control Side and Idle Side. Identify which side of the shade each of the brackets will go on based on your order.
Note: Removable Wand control is shown, but Continuous Chain Loop follows the same installation instructions.
STEP 1: Mount the Brackets
- Check the orientation of the control side. For wand shades, the Wand Eyelet hangs down from bracket. For Continuous Chain Loop, the Chain hangs from the bottom of bracket (fig. A).
![]()
- Measure the Marking Distance and use the results to mark the locations for mounting the brackets.
- Place the outside edge of the brackets on the marks and mark the screw holes.
- Check that the top of the installation brackets are at the desired height, level, and aligned.
![]()
A minimum 2 1⁄8" mounting depth is required to mount brackets (fig. B).
- Ensure the mounting surface is level and drill pilot holes using a 3⁄32" drill bit, then use provided screws to attach installation brackets.
![]()
Must be mounted into wood/metal studs or concrete anchors. Mounting with drywall anchors is NOT recommended. - Install Bra cket Covers: Align the bracket with the channels in the Bracket Cover and slide onto the bracket (fig. C).
![]()
STEP 2: Install the Shade
- Insert the Control End Plug onto the mechanism of the Wand or Clutch Bracket Assembly of the roller shade (fig. D).
![]()
- Sliding it from front to back, insert the Idle End Plug into the Idle Bracket Assembly and click the Idle End Plug into place (fig. E).
- Check that the shade is level, and that side-to-side movement does not exceed 1⁄ 16".
- If side-to-side movement does exceed 1⁄ 16", remove the shade (see how to remove) and loosen the screw on the idle side, slide the bracket inward, retighten screws, and then reinstall the shade.
STEP 3: Install Tension Device (Continuous Chain Loop Only)
If your custom shade came with a Chain, a Tension Device must be installed. Please ensure that chains and pull cords are not accessible to small children and are secured with a Tension Device at all times.
![]()
Failure to use a safety tension device will void product warranty. Do not allow for any slack. Do not twist, cross, or slant the chain.
- Position the Tension Device on a flat surface so that the Chain and Tension Device does not interfere with the raising and lowering of the shade.
- Ensure the Chain is taut but operable.
- Mark the positions for the pilot holes and pre-drill two 3⁄ 32" holes.
- Use provided screws to attach the Tension Device (fig. F).
![]()
- Cut off the cable tie and dispose of it properly.
![]()
Shade will NOT operate unless cord tensioner is secured. Each shade includes a cord tensioner installation kit. Please follow all instructions in the kit to properly secure the cord tensioner.
![]()
Window Blind Cord Strangulation Risk
A damaged, loose, or missing tension device poses a strangulation risk to children. Remove from use and repair or replace if tension device is damaged, loose, or missing.

CASSETTE Shade — TOP Mount
STEP 1: Mount the Brackets
- Three installation brackets are required.
- To find the bracket locations mark 3' in from each side for two of the bracket locations and mark the center between the two end brackets for the third (fig. A).
![]()
The front edges of the installation Cassette Brackets must be level and aligned with each other. The minimum depth required for mounting is 3'. Fully recessed mounting requires at least 4' depth for Cassette to be flush with opening (fig. B).

NOTE: Do not connect the Solar Panel to the battery. They both connect to the shade motor.
Solar Panel Care
Do not put anything on the Solar Panel that could filter the sun's rays, such as paint. Clean the photovoltaic cells at least once a month by wiping them with a soft, wet cloth to avoid scratching them. In the winter, do not allow snow to build up on the panel.
