The specifications apply to a rated voltage [U] of 230 V. These specifications may vary at different voltages and in country-specific models.
(see figure A) (GSB 13/ GSB 13 RE/GSB 16/GSB 16 RE)
You can swivel the auxiliary handle (11) to any angle for a safe work posture that minimises fatigue.
Turn the wing bolt for adjusting the auxiliary handle anticlockwise and swivel the auxiliary handle (11) into the required position. Then retighten the wing bolt by turning it clockwise.
Setting the Drilling Depth (see figure A)
You can use the depth stop (12) to set the required drilling depth X.
Press the button for depth stop adjustment (9) and insert the depth stop into the auxiliary handle.
Pull the depth stop far enough out that the distance between the drill bit tip and the edge of the depth stop corresponds to the required drilling depth X.
Keyless Chuck (see figure B)
Hold the rear sleeve (3) of the keyless chuck (1) firmly and turn the front sleeve (2) in the rotational direction ➊ until the tool can be inserted. Insert the tool.
Hold the rear sleeve (3) of the keyless chuck (1) and firmly tighten the front sleeve (2) by hand in the rotational direction ➋ until it stops clicking. This will automatically lock the drill chuck.
The lock will disengage again if you turn the front sleeve (2) in the opposite direction to remove the tool.
Keyed Chuck
Open the keyed chuck (15) by turning it until the tool can be inserted. Insert the tool.
Insert the drill chuck key (14) into the corresponding holes of the keyed chuck (15) and clamp the tool evenly.
Screwdriving Tools
You should always use a universal bit holder (16) when using screwdriver bits (17). Only use screwdriver bits that fit the screw head.
For screwdriving, make sure the "drilling/impact drilling" selector switch (4) is always set to the "drilling" symbol.
Removing the Drill Chuck
To remove the keyless chuck (1), clamp a hex key (18) in the keyless chuck (1) and position an open-ended spanner (19) (width across flats: 12) against the spanner flat of the drive spindle.
Place the power tool on a firm surface, e.g. a work bench. Hold the open-ended spanner (19) in place and loosen the keyless chuck (1) by turning the hex key (18) in the rotational direction ➊. A tightly seated keyless chuck can be loosened with a light blow on the long shaft of the hex key (18).
Remove the hex key from the keyless chuck and completely unscrew the keyless chuck from the power tool.
The keyed chuck (15) can be removed in the same way as described for the keyless chuck.
Fitting the Drill Chuck
The keyless chuck/keyless chuck with securing ring/keyed chuck is mounted in reverse order.
The drill chuck must be tightened using a tightening torque of approx. 30–35 Nm.
Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one's health. Touching or breathing-in the dust can cause allergic reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or bystanders.
Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the materials to be worked.
Setting the Rotational Direction
(GSB 10 RE/GSB 13 RE/GSB 16 RE)
The rotational direction switch (8) is used to change the rotational direction of the power tool. However, this is not possible while the on/off switch (6) is being pressed.
Right rotation: To drill and to drive in screws, press the rotational direction switch (8) through to the left stop.
Left Rotation: To loosen and unscrew screws and nuts, press the rotational direction switch (8) through to the right stop.
Setting the Operating Mode
Drilling and screwdriving
Set the selector switch (4) to the "drilling" symbol.
Impact drilling
Set the selector switch (4) to the "impact drilling" symbol.
The selector switch (4) clicks into place and can also be actuated when the motor is running.
Switching on/off
To start the power tool, press and hold the on/off switch (6).
Press the lock-on button (5) to lock the on/off switch (6) in this position.
To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (6); or, if the switch is locked with the lock-on button (5), briefly press the on/off switch (6) and then release it.
Setting the Speed/Impact Rate (GSB 10 RE/GSB 13 RE/GSB 16 RE)
You can adjust the speed of the power tool when it is on by pressing in the on/off switch (6) to varying extents.
A light pressure on the on/off switch (6) results in a low rotational speed. Increased pressure on the switch causes an increase in speed.
Preselecting the Speed/Impact Rate (GSB 16 RE)
You can preselect the required speed/impact rate using the speed preselection thumbwheel (7), even during operation. The required speed/impact rate is dependent on the material and the work conditions and can be determined by practical trials.
After working at a low speed for an extended period, you should operate the power tool at the maximum speed for approximately three minutes without load to cool it down.
To drill into tiles, set the selector switch (4) to the "drilling" symbol. After drilling through the tile, set the selector switch to the "impact drilling" symbol and drill with impact.
Use carbide drill bits when working with concrete, stone and masonry.
When drilling into metal, only use sharpened HSS drills (HSS = high-speed steel) which are in perfect condition. The Bosch accessory range guarantees appropriate quality.
Using the drill bit sharpener (accessory), you can effortlessly sharpen twist drill bits with a diameter of 2.5–10 mm.
Use a drill stand (accessory) for jobs that require particular precision.
The power tool vice, which is available as an accessory, enables the workpiece to be securely clamped. This prevents the workpiece from turning and any accidents this could cause.
In order to avoid safety hazards, if the power supply cord needs to be replaced, this must be done by Bosch or by a customer service centre that is authorised to repair Bosch power tools.
Our after-sales service can answer questions concerning product maintenance and repair, as well as spare parts. You can find exploded drawings and information on spare parts at: www.bosch-pt.com
