    Disassembly Procedures Safety Guidelines This chapter contains step by step procedures on how to remove and de-install components from the computer. Use the following safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety. Each procedure included in this chapter assumes that you are preparing your computer for recycling and disposal. By performing any of these procedures you acknowledge that any remaining warranty applicable to your computer will be voided.

    Getting Started Perform the following prior to performing any maintenance procedures: Place the system on a flat work surface. Make sure the system is completely powered down. If the device is in powered up mode, shut down the system normally. If the device is in sleep mode, wait for the Home Screen to clear.

    Lower Case Removal Remove the eleven (11) T6 screws securing the lower case to the upper case. Figure 1-2. Removing the Screws By holding the device upright and the lower case is facing you, pry the lower case from the upper side to release the latches, following the direction arrow.

    LCD Module Removal Prerequisite: Lower Case Removal on page  Disconnect the eDP cable from the mainboard connector. Then unroute the eDP cable from the guides on the upper case. Figure 1-13. Disconnecting the eDP Cable Open the lid in 90° and place the device on a raised surface. Then remove the four (4) screws securing the LCD hinges and LCD module to the upper case.

    RTC Battery Removal Prerequisite: SSD Module Removal on page 1-12  Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the mainboard connector. Figure 1-16. Diconnecting the RTC Battery Cable Detach the tape from the RTC battery cable. Pry to detach the adhesive tape underneath the RTC battery. Then remove the RTC battery.     Touchpad Removal Prerequisite: Battery Removal on page  Release the latches and disconnect the touchpad FFC from the mainboard and touchpad connectors. Then carefully lift the middle portion of the touchpad FFC to detach it from the adhesive tape underneath and remove the FFC. Figure 1-18.
  • Page 20 Slightly lift the mylar. Place your fingers underneath the touchpad, and then push the bottom part of the touchpad upwards to disengage it from the latches. Then remove the touchpad from the upper case. WEEE Annex VII Component: Touchpad Module Figure 1-20.

    USB Board Removal Prerequisite: Fan Module Removal  Thermal Module Removal  Detach the tape securing the speaker cable. Figure 1-21. Detaching the Tape Release the latches and disconnect the USB board FFC from the mainboard and USB board connectors. Then remove the USB board FFC. Disconnect the speaker cable from the USB board connector.

    LCD Bezel Removal Prerequisite: LCD Module Removal on page 1-14  By holding the LCD cover assembly upright and the LCD panel is facing you, pry to release both hinge caps. Figure 1-30.
