1.8 Installing the Drive
Follow the information in this chapter to select a suitable installation location.
Full output current is available when the following installation conditions are met:
• Maximum surrounding air temperature is 40 °C (75 °F). Maximum average of 35 °C (95 °F) over 24 hours.
• Minimum surrounding air temperature during operation is 0 °C (32 °F).
• Maximum altitude is 1000 m (3280 ft) above sea level.
• Maximum relative humidity during operation is 5–95% (IEC 721-3-3); Class 3K3 (non-condensing).
For temperatures and altitudes outside this range, consult the VLT® Decentral Drive FCD 302 Design Guide.
• Ensure that the operating environment and electrical installation meet the following standards.
- Indoor unconditioned/pollution degree 2.
- Overvoltage category 3.
• Provide 100 mm (4 inch) clearance above and below the drive for natural convection cooling.
• Only use the permitted mounting positions shown in this manual.
• Mount the installation box vertically on a wall or machine frame using the holes on the rear of the unit to fix mounting brackets.
Ensure that the mounting surface that can support the weight of the box and use proper mounting screws or bolts.
• Ground the drive in accordance with applicable standards and directives:
- Use a dedicated ground wire for input power, motor power, and control wiring.
- Do not ground drives in daisy-chain format.
- Minimum cable cross-section: 10 mm
• For EMC-compliant installation:
- Establish electrical contact between the cable shield and the drive enclosure by using metal cable glands or by using the
clamps provided on the equipment.
- Use high-strand wire to reduce electrical interference.
- Do not use pigtails.
