6.2 REPLACING THE EXTERNAL PROTECTIVE PLATE
Removal (fig. 1, 2)
- Place the helmet face down on a level surface (Fig. 1).
- Using your fingers pull down the front cover / spatter lens retention slide until it clears the bottom of the lens (Fig. 2).
- 9 The front cover / Spatter lens should fall away from the helmet.
- Release the retention slide, and turn the helmet over.
- Now simply lift the cover / spatter lens off.
Replacement (fig. 3)
- With the visor removed it is good practice to clean the ADF with a clean dry lint free cloth and check for signs of damage.
- To refit the cover / spatter lens slot the top location tab into the slot below the grind button until full located (Fig. 3).
- Ensure both sides of the lens are correctly located in the side retention slots.
- Using you thumb push down the front cover / spatter lens retention slide until it clears the bottom of the lens, press down on the bottom of the lens
and slide the retention slide over the lens and remove the protection film.
6.3 HEADGEAR REMOVAL, REPLACEMENT AND ADJUSTMENT
Removal (fig. 4, 5)
- Remove the headgear by unscrewing the headgear bolt, removing it completely (3) and flexing the helmet shell off the headgear assembly (1). It is
good practice to reinsert the bolt back into the assembly giving it a couple of turns this helps prevent loss of parts.
- Repeat this process for the opposite side
- The headband is now removed.
Replacement (fig. 4, 5)
- Ensure each rake is fitted correctly on each side (L left hand side, R right hand side) of the welding helmet (2) line the headband nut with the hole in
the side of the shell (ensure the front sweatband is facing the ADF).
- Once lined up screw the bolt all the way until your required tension is achieved.
- Repeat this process the opposite side.
Adjustment (fig. 4, 5)
- There are several adjustments that can be made to ensure comfortable and practical fit.
- Headband size – this is adjusted on the rachet system (4) Turn clockwise to tighten anticlockwise to loosen. In order to activate the ratchet gear
system the rear knob will need pushing in.
- Lateral adjustment – This adjusted on the slide mechanism located and the headband fastening system (4) to move the headband closer or further
away from the front push down on the lever (5) and move the headband backwards/ forward
- Headband Height – this is adjusted on the overhead watch straps (6,7) to adjust separate the locking pins from the rack and moving the strap to the
required height.
6.4 REPLACING THE INNER PROTECTIVE PLATE (fig. 6, 7)
- Lay the helmet face down and rotate the headgear so the that the sweatband is facing the top of the helmet.
- Place your finger into the lens cut out on the ADF and pull the lens towards and the lens will come out (Fig. 6)
- To fit the inner lens locate the one end into the ADF location lugs bend the lens in the middle and slide the other end into the opposite location lug
ensuring the lens is secure (Fig. 7).
6.5 REPLACING THE AUTO-DARKENING FILTER (ADF) (fig. 8, 9, 10)
- Place the helmet face down. Tilt the headgear unit the sweatband is closer to the top of the helmet. Now push the slides that are left and right of the
ADF (Fig 8) up towards the top of the helmet until they physically stop.
- Lift the ADF upwards until it is at an angle of roughly 45 degrees. The gently pull the ADF towards the chin of the helmet this will release the hooks
(Fig. 9). Once the ADF is free leave inside the helmet.
- Undo the positive drive screw from inside the helmet and push the grind button from the outside of the helmet in (Fig. 10).
- The ADF will now come free from the helmet.
- Install the replacement ADF by following the steps in reverse order.
6.6 CLEANING
It is always necessary to keep the solar cells and the light sensors of the auto-darkening welding filter free of dust and spatters: cleaning can be done
with a soft tissue, or a cloth soaked in mild detergent (or alcohol). Never use aggressive solvents such as acetone. MOST auto-darkening welding
filters should always be protected from both sides by protection plates (polycarbonate), which should also be only cleaned with a soft tissue or cloth.
If protection plates are in any way damaged, they must be immediately replaced. Clean the helmet with mild soap and lukewarm water. Clean the
welding filter with a clean lintfree tissue or cloth. DO NOT immerse in water. DO NOT use solvents.
6.7 REPLACEMENT OF BATTERIES (fig. 13)
When the low battery indicator is flashing (Red LED) the welder/operator should replace both CR2032 batteries in the APR C850 ADF by following
steps below before commencing work. Please ensure the polarity on the batteries is correct before pressing the battery trays back in the ADF casing!
It is recommended to replace both batteries within 72 hours from when the warning light is flashing.
- Carefully open the battery compartments.
- Put the new batteries into the battery compartments – ensure polarity is correct!
- Snap the compartments back into the filter casing.
- Install the ADF filter back onto the helmet shield.
