4. Cap
5. One-way normally closed checkvalve luer connector
INDICATION FOR USE
The MPS arrest agent and additive cassettes are to be used only with the Quest MPS system for infusion
of prescribed drug therapy into the cardioplegic solution.
CONTRAINDICATION
This device is designed for use with only the Quest MPS and MPS 2 console. Use with other systems is
contraindicated. This device is not designed, sold, or intended for use except as indicated.
WARNINGS and CAUTIONS
1. Read instructions carefully. The attending clinician is solely responsible for the setup and use of this device.
Complete instructions are in the Operations Manual.
2. For use with the Quest's MPS system only. All claims void if used separately.
3. Contents of unopened, undamaged package are sterile, nonpyrogenic. Inspect packaging prior to opening.
If damaged, sterility may be compromised.
4. Inspect set for kinks or damage before use. If damaged, do not use.
5. Do not load cassette if the pistons are in the forward position (convex). Cycle power to reset the pistons.
If the pistons do not retract, discontinue use of the console and call for service.
6. Do not fill the cassette before installing it into the MPS console. Follow the cassette filling procedure to
minimize the possibility of overfilling the cassette. Failure to follow the filling instructions may result in
unintentional bolus delivery.
7. Do not over-tighten rigid connections.
8. Dispose of this device according to hospital procedure for contaminated material.
9. Observe all additional warnings and cautions contained in this Instructions for Use and the operations manual.
10. Forcing door closed may indicate an improperly installed or overfilled cassette.
11. To avoid sensor damage, do not touch the pressure sensor located in the center of the pump piston.
12. Before using this device, the clinician should consider that one or more of its components contain phthalates
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
INSTALLING THE CASSETTES
1. Turn the MPS console power switch OFF and then ON to ensure the pump pistons are retracted.
2. Open the MPS console outer door, then open the green inner door on left side of console to expose
the pump chamber.
3. Open the yellow inner door on console right side to expose the pump chamber.
4. Secure cassettes over the four mounting pins.
5. Route the infusion lines up through channel directly above the pump chambers.
6. Remove the arrest agent luer port cover from the heat exchanger and connect the normally closed checkvalve.
7. Remove the additive luer port cover from the heat exchanger and connect the normally closed checkvalve.
8. Carefully close and lock the yellow and green inner doors.
FILLING THE ARREST AGENT and ADDITIVE CASSETTES
The Quest MPS console is designed to operate with arrest agent concentrations of 2 mEq/ml. Using an
arrest agent concentration other than 2 mEq/ml will result in inaccurate delivery concentrations and may
cause patient injury.
1. Fill syringe with no more than 50 ml of arrest agent solution with a concentration of 2 mEq/ml or 50 ml
of additive solution.
2. Connect filled syringe to yellow stopcock and turn handle to the fill position.
3. Pull back on syringe plunger to collapse cassette and evacuate excess air.
4. Hold the syringe in an upright position and withdraw plunger to ensure the cassette is free of air.
Carefully fill cassette by pressing plunger.
5. Disconnect the syringe from the luer port on stopcock and turn stopcock to delivery position.
Refer to MPS Console Operations Manual to set delivery concentrations.
