Using The Booster Seat

Booster Seat Backrest
Attaching the Backrest

  1. Place the base on a flat surface.
  2. Align the two hinges on the backrest with the bar on the base of the seat and push backrest hinges down onto base bar to connect. A click will be heard.
  3. Rotate the backrest up toward the base until a click is heard to confirm attachment.

Removing the Backrest

  1. Place the booster seat on a flat surface.
  2. Place one hand in the booster seat and push the backrest down until it lies flat.
NOTE: A click helps confirm the backrest is in the flat position.
  3. Continue pushing backrest until it separates from base. NOTE: Store the backrest in a cool, dry place.

Adjusting the Backrest

Reclining the vehicle seat back may adversely affect the position of the vehicle seat belt across the child and may result in death or serious injury in a crash. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for information on adjusting the vehicle seat back with child seats.

  1. Push the backrest until it rests against the vehicle seat back. If the vehicle seat back is adjustable, move it to the upright position.

Do not recline the backrest past the first click.

Adjusting Head Restraint Height
The head restraint can be adjusted and locked into different positions. Check the fit with a child seated in the booster seat. Ensure that the shoulder belt guides are at or just above the child's shoulder.

  1. Squeeze and hold the head restraint height adjuster to raise or lower the head restraint.
  2. Slide the head restraint up or down to the desired level.
  3. Release the adjustment handle, then pull up to ensure the head restraint has locked into place.
NOTE: Repeat this process until the shoulder belt lies across the center of the child's chest and is positioned at or just above the child's shoulder when positioned through the shoulder belt guide.

SecureGuard Clip
Britax recommends using the SecureGuard clip to achieve best vehicle seat belt placement. The SecureGuard clip should hold the lap part of the vehicle seat belt in place.
The SecureGuard clip should be adjusted to keep the lap part of the vehicle seat belt positioned low across your child's upper thighs. Ensure the bottom edge of the SecureGuard clip is level with your child's upper thighs; however, the clip itself should not press into your child's upper thighs.

The lap part of the vehicle seat belt must not rest on the child's abdomen.
SecureGuard Clip

Adjusting the SecureGuard Clip

  1. Remove the SecureGuard Clip.
    1. Lift up the front of the base cover by removing the elastics at the front of the base.
    2. Locate the SecureGuard retainer clip and rotate the Secure Guard strap 90 degrees.
    3. Slide the SecureGuard retainer clip through the slot and pull through the opening and away from the base.
  2. Adjust the SecureGuard webbing.
  • To Shorten: Feed the webbing through the SecureGuard retainer clip and pull the end of the SecureGuard webbing to tighten.
  • To Lengthen: Feed the end of the SecureGuard webbing through the retainer clip and pull the webbing to remove slack from the SecureGuard retainer clip. Then, move the SecureGuard clip to the center of the SecureGuard webbing. NOTE: The lower edge of the SecureGuard clip should be level with the child's upper thighs once the child has been secured in the booster seat.
  1. Reattach the SecureGuard clip back into the base of the seat by rotating the retainer clip 90 degrees and inserting it into the slot.
Ensure the SecureGuard strap is not twisted.

Cup Holders
Installing the Cup Holders (Optional)

DO NOT use cup holders with hot liquids.

  1. Slide the cup holder into the booster base and press down until a click is heard.
NOTE: The cup holders are labeled inside "L" and "R", from the position of the child occupant, and can only be installed as indicated.

Removing the Cup Holders

  1. From under the booster base, locate the tab on the bottom of the cup holder.
  2. Pull forward on the tab to disengage the cup holder, then pull up to remove it from the booster base. NOTE: Cup holders are dishwasher safe.
NOTE: Cup holders can be removed to allow for side by side seating positions.

Lower Anchor System
The lower anchor system helps to anchor the booster seat into the car for added stability and safety in the event of a crash. The lower anchor system does not restrain your child. You must use the lap-shoulder belt to properly secure your child.
The figure at right shows typical locations for lower anchors in a vehicle. Check your vehicle owner's manual to learn if it is equipped with lower anchors, information on the lower anchor locations, and designated seating positions available for use with this child seat.
Lower Anchor System

Overhang from Vehicle Seat
Overhang (including side overhang) is not allowed. The base of the child restraint must fit completely flat on the vehicle seat.

Lower Connectors
The lower connectors are located in the back of the base. Store the lower connectors in the slots when not in use.

Removing and Replacing Lower Connectors from Storage Slots

  • To remove, press the lower anchor release button on the child's left side of the booster base, then pull each of the connectors from the storage slots.
  • To replace, press the lower connector adjuster button on the child's left side of the booster base and then pull the lower connector adjuster strap until the connectors retract into the base. Ensure the straps are not twisted.
NOTE: The lower connectors may need to be rotated so they retract into the slots with the bottom side facing down.

Attaching and Removing Lower Connectors from Vehicle Lower Anchors

  • To attach, remove the lower connectors from the storage slots and firmly push down onto the vehicle lower anchors until a click is heard.
  • To remove, push the lower connector release button on the child's left side of the booster seat to loosen connector strap. Then press and hold the red lower connector release buttons and pull the connectors from the vehicle lower anchors.

Positioning the Booster Seat

If the lower anchors in your vehicle prevent proper vehicle belt fit across your child you cannot use LATCH to position this seat. See below.
Positioning the Booster Seat

Lower anchors can be used to secure the child seat to the vehicle seat even when unoccupied, since in a crash an unsecured child restraint system may injure occupants. Secure your child using the vehicle's lap-shoulder belt system.
Lower connectors are not required for proper seat installation. If lower connectors are not used, ensure they are properly stored in the seat base and do not interfere with the base of the booster seat.

  1. Verify the booster seat is compatible with your vehicle. Refer to the information about compatible seat belts and head restraints.
    1. Push the booster seat against the vehicle seat back and ensure that it is positioned correctly so the vehicle head restraint allows the backrest to lie flat against the vehicle seat back. Vehicle head restraint may need to be adjusted or removed.
    2. Ensure that the base of the booster seat does not hang over the edge of the vehicle seat.
  2. If the vehicle seat back is adjustable, ensure it is in the upright position before placing the booster seat on the vehicle seat.
  3. Push the lower connector release button and pull lower connector to fully extend the lower connector adjuster strap. Repeat on the opposite side to ensure that all slack has been released from the lower connector system.
  4. Attach the lower connectors.
    1. Verify the lower anchor adjuster straps are not twisted.
    2. Using the lower anchor farthest from you for easiest positioning push the lower connectors onto their adjacent lower anchors as shown.
NOTE: You may need to turn the back of the booster seat towards you for easier access to the lower anchors.
    3. A click helps confirm lower connectors are attached. Pull on lower connectors to confirm a secure attachment.

If a click is not heard when connecting the lower connectors, the lower anchor adjuster strap may be twisted or there may be debris in the lower connector. Correct either situation before continuing with the positioning process.
  5. Guide the booster seat into place while pulling the lower connector adjuster strap to remove slack.

NOTE: Only tighten until the slack is removed from the lower connector adjuster strap. Over-tightening the strap can force the backrest of the booster seat forward.

Securing Your Child

Use only the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt system when restraining the child in this booster seat.

Booster Seat with Backrest

  1. Sit your child in the booster seat, ensuring that the child is sitting upright and that their back is against the backrest. Check the head restraint for proper height adjustment. The top of the head restraint should be above the child's ears.
  2. Pull the vehicle seat belt out and route the shoulder part of the vehicle seat belt through the shoulder belt guide.
  3. Route the lap part of the vehicle seat belt under the left and right armrests, over both base belt guides.
NOTE: The shoulder part of the vehicle seat belt should be routed under the armrest on the buckle side.
  4. Verify the vehicle seat belt is not twisted and then fasten across the child.
NOTE: The lap part of the vehicle seat belt should be worn under the armrests and rest low on the child's upper thighs.
  5. Route the lap part of the vehicle seat belt through the SecureGuard clip.
NOTE: The lap part of the vehicle seat belt should be worn under the armrests and rest low on the child's upper thighs.
  6. Remove slack from the vehicle seat belt.
NOTE: Proper positioning is achieved when the shoulder belt lies across the center of the child's chest and is positioned at or just above the child's shoulder.
  7. Review Checklist to ensure all steps have been completed fully.

Booster Seat without Backrest

  1. Ensure the booster seat is positioned in a location that has a vehicle head restraint, and attach lower connectors as shown inPositioning the Booster Seat.
  2. Seat your child in the booster seat. The top of the child's ears must be below the top of the vehicle head restraint
  3. Pull the vehicle seat belt out, then route the lap part of the vehicle seat belt under both armrests and over the left and right base belt guides.
NOTE: The shoulder part of the vehicle seat belt should be routed under the armrest on the buckle side.
  4. Verify that the vehicle seat belt is not twisted and then fasten across the child.
NOTE: The lap part of the vehicle seat belt should be worn under the armrests and rest low on the child's upper thighs. The shoulder belt should lie across the center of the child's chest, and be positioned at or above the child's shoulder.
  1. Route the lap part of the vehicle seat belt through the SecureGuard clip. NOTE: The lap part of the vehicle seat belt should rest low on the child's upper thighs, routed through the SecureGuard clip and under the armrests.
  2. Remove slack from the vehicle seat belt.

CHECKLIST

  • Vehicle seat belt is not twisted.
  • Vehicle seat belt is securely positioned and fastened.
  • Lap part of the vehicle seat belt should be worn under the armrests and rest low on the child's upper thighs.
  • Shoulder belt lies across the center of the child's chest and is positioned at or above the child's shoulder.

Vehicle Compatibility

Vehicle Seating Positions

The back seat is the safest location for children 12 and under.
DO NOT place a booster seat on the front seat with an air bag unless it is deactivated. DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur. See your vehicle owner's manual for booster seat positioning instructions.
This booster seat must only be used in forward-facing vehicle seats. Side-facing or rearfacing seats CANNOT be used. For questions about positioning the booster seat consult the vehicle owner's manual.
Some vehicles have no seating positions which are compatible with this booster seat or any other child seat. See diagram below.

Vehicle Buckle Position

The position of the vehicle seat belt buckle can adversely affect the stability of the booster seat.
If the buckle lies near the incorrect position ( ) when the slack is removed from the vehicle seat belt, try fitting the booster seat in another seating position OR consult your vehicle owner's manual to see if you can lower the vehicle buckle position by twisting the vehicle buckle stalk.

If it is not possible to achieve the correct position ( ) for the buckle, then another seating position or child seat MUST be used.

Vehicle Seat Belts

Vehicle seats and vehicle seat belts differ from vehicle to vehicle. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for specific information about vehicle seat belts and their use with child seats. This booster seat can fit securely in most vehicles using existing vehicle seat belts. However, some vehicles do not have seating positions which are compatible with this booster seat or any other child restraint. If in doubt, contact the vehicle manufacturer for assistance.
To protect your child in a crash, you must use this booster seat with vehicle seat belts that are compatible. This booster seat can only be used with three-point (lap-shoulder) vehicle seat belts. The vehicle owner's manual will have information on the types of vehicle seat belts in your vehicle. If your vehicle seat belt type is identified as incompatible, select another seating position.

Vehicle Head Restraints
WITH BACKREST: Proper positioning of the booster seat may require adjusting or removing the vehicle head restraint to allow the backrest to lie flat against the vehicle seat back. If the vehicle head restraint cannot be adjusted or removed, a different seating position or different booster seat should be used.
WITHOUT BACKREST: Use only as a backless booster when used in a seating position with a vehicle head restraint. See your vehicle owner's manual for booster seat positioning instructions.

In some cases, the vehicle head restraint can prevent the child seat head restraint from being raised high enough to properly adjust the harness for the fit of your child. DO NOT force the child seat head restraint past the vehicle head restraint. Doing so could cause the child seat not to perform as intended. If the location of the vehicle head restraint interferes with the child seat head restraint, raise or remove the vehicle head restraint. If the vehicle head restraint cannot be removed, move the child seat to the upright position or try a different seating location.

The following types of vehicle seat belts are NOT compatible with this child seat. If any of the belt types listed below are in the chosen seating position, choose another vehicle seating position or check your vehicle owner's manual for information on installing a car seat in your vehicle.

NOTE: This booster seat may not be compatible with every inflatable lap-shoulder belt found in all vehicle makes and models. See FAQs in the support section of the Britax website (us.britax.com/faqs) for additional instructions.

Safety Information

Failure to follow all warnings and instructions could result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
Read these instructions carefully before using this product.

FIT REQUIREMENTS

  • WITH BACKREST: Use only with children who weigh between 40 - 120 lbs (18 - 54 kg) and whose height is between 44 - 63 inches (110 - 160 cm).
  • WITHOUT BACKREST: Use only with children who weigh between 48 - 120 lbs (22 - 54 kg) and whose height is between 46 - 63 inches (115 - 160 cm).

INSTALLATION

  • Use only the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt system when restraining the child in this booster seat.
  • Use only as a backless booster when used in a seating position with a vehicle head restraint and when proper vehicle belt placement can be achieved.

GENERAL USAGE

  • Follow all instructions on this child restraint and in the written instructions located under the base of the seat.
  • Register your child restraint with the manufacturer.
  • Use this booster seat forward-facing only.
  • In a vehicle with rear designated seating positions, vehicle owners should be alerted that, according to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating positions. To ensure your child's safety, please studyVehicle Seating Positions and consult your vehicle owner's manual.
  • Always make sure the child restraint system is secured to the vehicle, even when unoccupied, since in a crash an unsecured child restraint system may injure occupants. The unoccupied child seat can be secured to the vehicle by attaching the lower connectors to the lower anchors in the vehicle, or by fastening the vehicle seatbelt across the unoccupied child seat.
  • To prevent injury due to deterioration, discontinue use of a booster seat that is older than ten (10) years or has been in a severe crash. See expiration date on Serial Number and Manufactured Date Label located under the base cover.
  • The use of non-Britax covers, inserts, toys, accessories, or tightening devices is not approved by Britax. Their use could cause this booster seat not to perform as intended in a crash.
  • The primary protection for occupants of a vehicle in a collision is the body of the vehicle itself; a child seat will not protect a child when a vehicle is seriously impacted. However, correctly installed, a child seat will substantially improve chances for survival in most crashes. Make sure all users fully understand the correct ways to use this child seat in a vehicle.

Important Notes

  • Before each use, check this child restraint and its components to make sure they are in good condition and good working order.
  • Discontinue use of this child seat if it has been in a moderate or severe crash. It is not necessary to replace a car seat after aminor crash, defined by NHTSA as:
    1. The vehicle is drivable from the crash site;and
    2. The vehicle door nearest the child seat was not damaged;and
    3. No vehicle occupants were injured;and
    4. There is no visible damage to the child seat;and
    5. The airbags (if present) did not deploy.
  • Verify that the child restraint and child restraint belts or straps do not interfere with the opening and closing of the vehicle door.
  • Consult vehicle user guide to ensure child restraint installation does not interfere with function of vehicle seats.
  • Never leave child unattended.
  • The lap part of the vehicle seat belt should be worn underneath the armrest and rest low on the child's upper thighs (pelvis area) such that it is firmly secure.
  • Always support the base and backrest while lifting or carrying this booster seat.
  • Cover the booster seat when the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight. Parts of the booster seat could become hot enough to burn a child.
  • Store the booster seat in a cool, dry place when it is not being used. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the booster seat.
  • DO NOT except as described in this user guide attempt to disassemble any part of the booster seat or change the way the vehicle's seat belts are used.
  • DO NOT leave folding vehicle seats unsecured. In the event of a sudden stop, a loose seat back could cause the booster seat not to perform as intended.
  • DO NOT use anything to raise the booster seat off the vehicle seat. In a crash, this could cause the booster seat not to perform as intended.
  • Third party recommendations are subject to change, so we recommend you visit their websites for the most up to date recommendations.
