2320-0028 Detachable Sportshield Mounting Kit for HD FXSTS / FLSTS Springer W/O Light Bar
Read and follow these directions carefully.
During installation, make sure that the windshield and hard-
ware do not interfere with any cables or wiring when the forks
are turned all the way in either direction. Also make sure,
through the full range of adjustment, that the windshield and
hardware do not hit the tank.
This is a detachable windshield, ALWAYS make sure the
Locking Mechanism is Fully Engaged after installing the
windshield!
The improper installation of this kit and related compo-
nents could result in serious injury or death.
Additional tools required, that are not included in this kit.
Two 9/16" wrenches and 8mm or 5/16" Allen wrench.
1. Cover gas tank and front fender with towels to avoid
damage during installation.
2. Remove the 3/8" diameter upper shock mount bolt from the
motorcycle, (see figure 1). Pay close attention to throttle cable
routing for reassembly (see figure 3). Factory cable guide must be
in place (see figure 3). Next locate the original left and right
fork mount bolts and remove them as well. (see figure 1)
Note: Tri-plates mount with the point of the triangular shape point-
ing upward, smooth round holes to the front, slot to the rear. The
anchor bolt spools also face out away from the headlight.
3. Remove one acorn nut and the aluminum spools from the
new stainless rod. Install the new stainless rod through the left
stainless tri-plate, (through black plastic washer on non Heri-
tage models) through one large aluminum spool, through the
upper shock mount, through the other large aluminum spool,
(through black plastic washer on non Heritage models)
through the right side tri-plate, thread on the acorn nut and
loosely tighten. (see figure 2)
Note: On Heritage models place the black spacer washers in
between the stainless Tri-plate bracket and the fork mount.
4. Line up the clutch side back tri-plate mounting slot to the fork
mount and loosely install the new shorter 5/16" socket head cap
screw and stainless washer. Next line up the throttle side back tri-
plate mounting slot to the fork mount. With the cable holder as-
sembly on the outside of the tri-plate bracket, install the new
longer 5/16" socket head cap screw and stainless washer.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
5. Tighten the 5/16" screws first, followed by the stainless
acorn nuts on the 3/8" rod. Loosen anchor bolts. (see figure 3)
6. Install the windshield mounting plates onto the windshield,
using the bolts that are pre-assembled on the mounting plates.
The Santoprene grommets should be inserted through the
holes in the windshield so that the flat round part of the grommet
lies flat on each side of the plastic. Tabs face out away from
the headlight when installed correctly. (see Figure 4)
7. With the four anchor bolts already loosened, slip the wind-
shield onto the anchor bolts. (see figure 5) Adjust the height,
angle and alignment of the shield and tighten ALL bolts.
Note: This is a detachable windshield, ALWAYS make sure
the Locking Mechanism is Fully Engaged after installing
the windshield! (see figure 5)
Memphis Shades Windshields and Lowers are made of
Lucite® acrylic, and will last for years with proper care.
Clean your windshield with plenty of soapy water — mild
dishwashing liquid is best — and a soft cotton cloth. Use your
bare hand to feel and dislodge bugs, or cover with a wet soapy
towel and let it soak. Don't use paper towels and don't scrape
with anything. Small scratches can be removed with NOVUS
# 2.
NEVER use any glass cleaning products, petroleum based
chemicals, or cleaning agents with ammonia, bleach or any
other harsh chemicals. This includes (but not limited to)
RainX, brake fluid, acetone, paint thinner, benzene and
gasoline. "If it hurts your nose, it will hurt the plastic."
NOTE: At certain times of the day the Sunlight can reflect
off the curvature of a windshield and cause extreme heat
build-up on motorcycle instruments and instrument panel.
Take care when parking. Park facing the sun, place an opaque
object over the instruments or adjust the windshield to avoid
reflections.
