Connecting to a
Computer

To connect
to
a
computer
net-
work, you
need
a way of con-
necting the Tandy 102's built-in
modem to an ordinary telephone.
You
can
use either:
The direct-connect
modem
cable
(Cat.
No.
26-1410) that
you
used in Chapter 5 of this
manual-This is
the most
reliable because it connects the
built-in modem directly to the
telephone
wire.
or
An acoustic
coupler
(Cat No.
26-3805)-Use this when
you
cannot
directly connect
to
a
telephone
(for example, when
using a pay phone).
1.
Set
TELCOM's
Parameters
You
see
TELCOM's parameters
when you first enter TEL
COM
.
Unless
you
are autodialing,
you
do
not
need to be concerned with
the
last
parameter-IO pps or 20
pps-but the others must
be

Connect

telephone
Modem
Cable:
Connect
the
Tan-
dy
102
built-in
modem
to the
telephone
line as
you
did in
Chapter
5.
Be
sure the
DIR/
ACP
switch
(on
the left
of
the Tandy
102)
is set to DIR,
for "direct-
connect."
Acoustic
Coupler:
Connect the
acoustic
coupler to
the
Tandy
102
PHONE
jack (on the rear of
the Tandy 102) and
set
the
DIR/
ACP switch (on
the left
of
the Tandy
102)
to ACP, for
"acoustic
coupler."
3.
Set
to
"originate.
"
Set the
ORIG/
ANS
switch
(on
the left of the Tandy
102)
to
ORIG, for "originating
the
call."
4.
Call
the
network.
The computer service should
have
supplied
you
with a
telephone number of a
network
that
you
can
use to
access
the
service.

last chapter if
you
do not have this felephone
number.)
