nCipher strongly recommends that you read the release notes in the
installation disc before you use the module. These notes contain the latest information about your
product.

1.2.1 Terminology

The nShield Solo and nShield Solo XC are referred to as the nShield Solo and nShield Solo XC , the
hardware security module , or the HSM in this guide.

1.3 Typographical conventions

The word Note indicates important supplementary information.
Pay particular attention to any warnings and cautions accompanied by the following symbols:
