Set-Up and Knocked-Down - the operation of the repeater while it is in either of these states
depends upon the type of the repeater selected via the RSS. See Table 1-1 for an explanation.
The Set-Up and Knock-Down commands may be received from the wireline and/or over the air,
depending upon the type of repeater. Again, this is described in Table 1-1.
The RSS allows definition of Set-Up and Knock-Down tone sequences to be received over air. If set
via the RSS, entry to Set-Up state, or Knock-Down state may cause an over air tone sequence
acknowledge to be sent. This is required by radios employing automatic retry (or used just to
produce an audible over-air confirmation of the operation).
When the repeater is Set-Up or Knocked-Down over the air using tone sequences, the TRICK will
send the appropriate TRC command down the wireline to update the state of the Centro Plus
console(s). This ensures that the TRICK and the Centro Plus console(s) states are synchronized.
The RSS allows the repeater to be forced to the Set-Up condition, permanently.
RAT - stands for Repeater Access Tones. The RAT is a tone sequence (defined via the RSS) sent
over air to enable the repeater for the duration of a single conversation. This is further explained in
Table 1-1.
Type 1 Repeater
The repeater may be Set-Up or Knocked-Down by either wireline TRC signals, or over the air using
tone sequences.
When the repeater is Knocked-Down, reception of the correct RAT with valid audio will Enable the
repeater.
When the repeater is Set-Up, it can be Enabled purely by the Valid Audio signal.
Repeater
Type 1:
Set-Up by TRC or 5 tone signal.
Free Running
Enabled by RAT & Valid Audio.
Type 2:
Set-Up by TRC only .
TRC Controlled
Cannot be Enabled - no repeater function.
Type 3:
Cannot be Knocked Down (permanently
Unconditional
Set-Up via RSS programming)
Type 2 Repeater
For this type of repeater the Set-Up and Knock-Down commands will typically be originated by the
wireline console. This is achieved within the RSS by disabling the 5 tone decoders for Set-Up and
Knock-Down rather than a special mode, since there are a few cases where Type 2 repeaters will
require over air Set-Up/Knock-Down.
However, for Type 2 repeaters, the repeater may only be Enabled when in the Set-Up mode, since
the RAT is needed even when the repeater is Set-Up.
