Functional Description

1
The ENLN4056 is a Tone and Repeater Interface Control Kit (TRICK) module which enables
Motorola GM350 or GM950 mobile two-way radios to be used for base station or repeater
applications. Other mobile radios may also be used if they incorporate a similar accessory interface
to the GM350 or GM950 (eg the Motorola GM300).
As shown in Figure 1-1, the TRICK may be connected to one or two mobile radios, depending upon
the application. The TRICK also provides an interface for a wire line controller, such as the Motorola
Centro Plus, which supports the Motorola Tone Remote Control (TRC) signalling protocol.
The TRICK is fully programmable using a PC running the Windows 3.11, NT or '95 operating
system. Using the same PC, and a terminal emulation program package, it is possible to perform
maintenance tasks such as software upgrades.
Control Console
The TRICK may be used in three basic configurations;
1.
Simplex base station - In this configuration, the TRICK provides a Tone Remote Control (TRC)
interface between a single radio and a wireline control console (such as the Motorola Centro
Plus).
2.
Semi-duplex base station/repeater - In this configuration the TRICK provides a Tone Remote
Control (TRC) interface between two mobile radios and a wireline control console (such as
the Motorola Centro Plus).
3.
Standalone repeater - In this configuration the TRICK controls two mobile radios in the
absence of a wireline console. The TRICK has 5 tone signalling capability built in, allowing the
repeater to be controlled over air.
The TRICK has been designed to be installed into the Motorola ENLN4055 base station/repeater
housing kit and other Motorola repeater housing kits with similar mechanical dimensions.
The functionality of the TRICK will be described under the following headings;
Radio Control
Line Control
Local Control
Alarm Inputs
