information needed

normal
initial
set-up
and
checkout
of
the
subsystem.
This
section
also
contains
information
necessary
for
shipment
of
the
subsystem
and,
consequently,
it
should
be
retained
for
reference.

component
parts
of
the
subsystem
reference
should be
made
to
the

and
7914

2-2. INITIAL
INSPECTION
The component
parts,
i.
e.
the
disc
and
tape drive
units,
of the
HP
7914CT
are
shipped
in
reusable
containers.
When
the
shipment
arrives,
ensure
that
the
containers
have
been
received
as
specified
by
the
carrier's
bill
of
lading.
Inspect
the shipping containers
immediately
upon
receipt
for
evidence
of
mishandling during
transit.
If
the
containers
are
damaged
or
water-stained, request
that
the
carrier's
agent
is
present
when
the
containers are
unpacked.
If
the containers
appear
to
be
in
satisfactory
condition,
proceed
with
the
unpacking
instructions.

CLAIMS
PROCEDURE
WARNING
To
avoid
dangerous
electrical
shock,
do not apply
power
to
the drive
when
there are
signs of
physical
damage
to
any
portion
of
the outer
enclosure.
If
the
shipment
is
incomplete
or
if
the
equipment
is
damaged
or
fails
to
meet
specifications,
notify
your
nearest
Hewlett-Packard
Sales
and
Support
Office.
If
damage
occurred
in
transit,
notify the
carrier
as well.
Hewlett-Packard
will
arrange
for
replacement
or
repair
without
waiting
for
settlement
of claims against the
carrier.
In
the
event
of
damage
in
transit,
retain the shipping
container(s)
and
packaging
material
for
inspection.

EQUIPMENT
IDENTIFICATION
The
disc
drive
model
number
and
full
serial
number
are
stamped on
two
identification
labels.
One
is
located
behind
the front panel
and
the
other
is
located
on
the
left-hand
side
of
the
lower, rear
frame member.
This
can
be
seen
without removing
the
rear
panel.
The model
number
and
serial
number
for
the tape drive are
stamped on
a
similar
label
on
its
rear panel.
