Optical Image Stabilizer
(UC800/UC850)
The camera's zoom lens allows you to choose the
best picture angle for each scene:
•Turn the zoom control towards W to zoom out to
wide-angle.
• Turn it towards T to zoom in to telephoto.
The UC800/UC850's Optical Image Stabilizer
allows you to obtain steady recordings even at 22X
magnification. Unlike electronic image stabilizers, it
causes no loss of picture quality. The Optical

Notes:
• Overuse of the zoom may make recordings seem
too busy. It is generally better to use it sparingly,
or in order to reframe between shots.
• When you want to get as close as possible to
your subject, keep the zoom at the wide-angle
position. You can focus on a subject as close as
1 cm (3/8 in).
For the UC800/UC850
• Keep the image stabilizer turned off when the
camera is mounted on a tripod.
• The image stabilizer always remains on when
you are using the Easy Recording program (see
p. 24).
• The image stabilizer is designed to deal with a
normal degree of camera shake — it cannot
compensate for large movements of the camera.
• The image stabilizer is not as effective as usual
when the optional wide-converter or tele-
converter is attached.
