If you want to bypass the telephone, follow these steps:
• Unplug the telephone cable from its wall jack.
• Plug one end of a modular phone cable into the telephone
line jack on the back of the modem.
• Plug the other end of the modular phone cable into the
telephone wall jack.

Adjusting the Volume of the Modem's Speaker
Your modem's built-in speaker allows you to listen in when the
modem places a call so you can hear the dial tone, the carrier
signal, and other tones while the call is being made. If you want
to adjust the volume of the speaker, turn the recessed screw on
the bottom of your modem using a flathead screwdriver. Turn
the screw clockwise to increase the volume, counterclockwise
to decrease the volume.
