Troubleshooting
Refer to this checklist first if you have any problems with your camera. Possible explanations are given
0
below each problem on the list — turn to the page numbers in brackets for more information.
Make sure that the camera is properly connected if you ate using it with a TV or VCR. Consult your dealer
or service outlet if problems persist.
H Nothing happens when I press the buttons.
H The camera turned itself off.
H The start/stop button doesn't work.
H There's no picture in the viewfinder.
B The Custom Keys don't work.
H The camera won't focus.
• You haven't turned the camera on (p. 6, 14).
• You haven't loaded a cassette, or it is set for
erasure prevention (p. 12).
• The tape has reached the end.
• The battery pack is exhausted, or not properly
attached (p. 8-10).
• You need to select a different recording program
to use that function (p. 30).
• You left it in record pause mode for more than
about five minutes (p. 6).
• The battery pack is exhausted (p. 9-10).
• The POWER switch is not set to CAMERA (p. 6)
• You haven't loaded a cassette, or it is set for
erasure prevention (p. 12).
• The Tape has reached the end.
• The POWER switch is not set to CAMERA (p. 6)
• The focus is set to manual (p. 32).
• The camera is on manual focus (p. 32).
• The viewfinder lens needs adjusting (p. 13).
• The lens is dirty (p. 44).
• Some subjects are not suitable for autofocus.
Subjects behind
glass

much contrast (such
as a white wall)
Night scenes and
low light conditions
Several subjects in
the viewfinder at
different distances
Subjects with
horizontal stripes
Subjects not in the
centre of the
viewfinder
Slanted subjects
Dark subjects
Rapidly moving
subjects
Subjects which
reflect too much
light (such as shiny
car exteriors)
In these situations, you will often get better results
using manual focus (see p. 32).
