Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle
functions
(power window reg ula-
tors, for example) are lost
if
t he battery termi
-
nals are disconnected. These functions have to be
relearned afte
r
the battery termina ls are con-
nected aga in. To prevent th is, the batte ry shou ld
only be disconnected from the vehicle electr
ical
system when abso lute ly necessary for repairs.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If
you
do not drive
your
vehicle over a period of
several days or weeks, electrical components are
gradually cut back or switched off. This reduces
energy consumption and ma inta ins starting
ca-
pability over a longer pe riod

Some
of
the convenience functions may not ope r-
ate,
such
as the inte rior lights or the power seat
adjustment. The convenience functions will be
available aga in whe

the ignition and

Winter operation
During the winter months, battery capacity tends
to decrease as temperatures drop. This is be-
cause more power is also consumed while start

ing, and the head lights

rear window defogge r,
etc., are used more

Avoid unnecessa ry power consumption, part icu-
larly in city traffic or when t raveling only short
dista nces

the battery.

Battery acid contains sulfuric acid. Al-
ways wear gloves and eye protection.

When a battery is
charged,
it produces
hydrogen gas which is explosive and
could cause personal injury.

Always keep the battery well out of reach
of children.
