Installation

5.1

Site requirements

The base unit enclosure contains all functional components of the analyzer. The enclosure is designed for orientation
in either the vertical tower position or the horizontal desktop position. The air flow through the base unit draws air
in from the front of the unit and exhausts at the rear of the unit. To limit inlet air obstruction, at least 152.4 mm
(6 in) of clearance must be maintained at the front of the unit. To limit exhaust air obstruction, the rear of the base
unit must have 152.4 mm (6 in) of clearance to the nearest obstruction.
5.1.1
Electrical power
The supply voltage should be regulated and free of voltage spikes. It is recommended, but not required, that an
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is used with the analyzer to prevent potential data loss due to instrument power
cycling in response to mains power loss. A UPS capable of providing the analyzer's maximum power consumption,
but at least the typical running power of the Raman Rxn2 is highly recommended. See the technical data for the Base
unit →
for details on power consumption.
For a Raman Rxn2 analyzer, the location selected must have 4 voltage power outlets, 1 for each of the following:
Base unit
Touchscreen monitor
Optional power meter or the Raman calibration accessory (HCA)
Alternatively, these components may be plugged into a power strip on 1 outlet.
5.1.2
Location
The Raman Rxn2 analyzer can be located on a level surface such as a laboratory benchtop or an equipment cart. In
addition, the location selected should be:
Free of moisture, dust, and corrosive vapors
Isolated from excess vibrations
Protected from direct sunlight
5.1.3
Ventilation
The location selected should allow for adequate ventilation to both the front and rear of the base unit. A minimum
space of 152.4 mm (6 in) must be provided in both the front and rear of the base unit for proper inlet and outlet air
movement.
5.1.4
Temperature
The Raman Rxn2 base unit and touchscreen monitor are designed to operate within a temperature range of 15 to
30 °C (59 to 86 °F). In any installation case, care must be taken to keep the instrument inlet air and surrounding air
within this temperature range.
5.1.5
Relative humidity
The Raman Rxn2 base unit and touchscreen monitor are designed to operate within an ambient relative humidity
range of 20 to 80 %, non-condensing.
