7. Check the air cleaner element.
Remove the air cleaner cover by unhooking the two latch tabs on the
top of the air cleaner cover and the two lower tabs. Check the element
to be sure it is clean and in good condition.
If the element is dirty, clean it (see page 29). Replace the element if it
is damaged.
Reinstall the element and air cleaner cover securely.

CAUTION:
Never run the engine without the air cleaner. Rapid engine wear will
result from contaminants such as dust and dirt being drawn through
the carburetor into the engine.
