  • Page 17: Functional Description

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The 60-760 is an RF matrix with one or two 24x8 banks under the control of an LXI interface designed for the routing of signals with frequencies up to 50MHz. In the case of the dual 24x8 matrix, each bank can be used separately, or combined using isolation relays to form a 48x8 matrix.
  • Page 18: Using The Matrix

USING THE MATRIX The 60-760 HF Matrix family consists of either single or dual 24x8 coaxial matrices. This enables many different configurations to be realised, see following details. The Matrix also uses Y Isolation Switches to connect the Y axis to the front panel connectors.
  • Page 19 SECTION 2 - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION pickering 60-760 Single 48x8 Configuration The 60-760-002 & 60-760-006 dual 24x8 configurations can be configured by closing all Matrix Isolation Switches to create a single 48x8 matrix (see Figure 2-4). MATRIX MATRIX ISOLATION ISOLATION ISOLATION...
  • Page 20 In practice, only the Y isolation relays required for a particular signal path would be operated and all others would remain open. In this way the overall bandwidth of the matrix is preserved by avoiding unnecessary stubs in the signal paths. LXI DUAL 24x8 HF MATRIX 60-760 Page 2.4...
  • Page 21: Installation

HARDWARE INSTALLATION The 60-760 may be mounted on a desk top or fitted into a standard 19 inch rack (rack versions are supplied with mounting flanges fitted to either side of the front panel). When fitting into a rack it is important to provide adequate support using side brackets or runners, the mounting holes in the front panel flanges are designed only for securing the unit in the rack and must NOT be used to support the weight of the whole unit.

  • Page 26: Programming The 60-760

PROGRAMMING THE 60-760 The 60-760 is a dual matrix consisting of two separate cards each with 24 connections on its X axis and 8 on its Y axis. A version with a single 24x8 matrix card is also available. Each card comprises two separate 12x8 matrices interconnected with isolation relays.
  • Page 27 The Direct I/O driver is in reality composed of a suite of separate libraries which interact to provide full control of a Pickering LXI unit. In the case of a switch card the communications library picmlx, and the switching library piplx, are needed.
