Signal Routing Software Our signal routing software, Switch Path Manager, automatically selects and energizes switch paths through Pickering switching systems. Signal routing is performed by simply defining test system endpoints to be connected together, greatly accelerating Test System software development.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The 60-760 is an RF matrix with one or two 24x8 banks under the control of an LXI interface designed for the routing of signals with frequencies up to 50MHz. In the case of the dual 24x8 matrix, each bank can be used separately, or combined using isolation relays to form a 48x8 matrix.
USING THE MATRIX The 60-760 HF Matrix family consists of either single or dual 24x8 coaxial matrices. This enables many different configurations to be realised, see following details. The Matrix also uses Y Isolation Switches to connect the Y axis to the front panel connectors.
Page 19
SECTION 2 - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION pickering 60-760 Single 48x8 Configuration The 60-760-002 & 60-760-006 dual 24x8 configurations can be configured by closing all Matrix Isolation Switches to create a single 48x8 matrix (see Figure 2-4). MATRIX MATRIX ISOLATION ISOLATION ISOLATION...
Page 20
In practice, only the Y isolation relays required for a particular signal path would be operated and all others would remain open. In this way the overall bandwidth of the matrix is preserved by avoiding unnecessary stubs in the signal paths. LXI DUAL 24x8 HF MATRIX 60-760 Page 2.4...
HARDWARE INSTALLATION The 60-760 may be mounted on a desk top or fitted into a standard 19 inch rack (rack versions are supplied with mounting flanges fitted to either side of the front panel). When fitting into a rack it is important to provide adequate support using side brackets or runners, the mounting holes in the front panel flanges are designed only for securing the unit in the rack and must NOT be used to support the weight of the whole unit.
Figure 3-3. Front and Rear Views of the 60-760-006 LXI Dual 24x8 HF Matrix fitted with BNC connectors SETTING THE IP ADDRESS To use the 60-760 HF Matrix over a LAN connection it should be set up and configured as described in the “LXI Getting Started Guide” document.
SOFT FRONT PANEL OPERATION The 60-760 Dual HF Matrix can be programmed using the Soft Front Panel. This can be run as a Java Applet from the device’s LXI home page. You must have the Java Runtime environment loaded from Sun Microsystems to use this facility.
SECTION 4 - PROGRAMMING GUIDE PROGRAMMING OPTIONS FOR PICKERING INTERFACES LXI UNITS For information on the installation and use of drivers and the programming of Pickering’s products in various software environments, please refer to the Software User Manual. This is available as a download from: https://www.pickeringtest.com/support/software-drivers-and-downloads...
PROGRAMMING THE 60-760 The 60-760 is a dual matrix consisting of two separate cards each with 24 connections on its X axis and 8 on its Y axis. A version with a single 24x8 matrix card is also available. Each card comprises two separate 12x8 matrices interconnected with isolation relays.
Page 27
The Direct I/O driver is in reality composed of a suite of separate libraries which interact to provide full control of a Pickering LXI unit. In the case of a switch card the communications library picmlx, and the switching library piplx, are needed.
Page 28
The following code snippet demonstrates the minimum steps required to operate a switch on a Pickering LXI unit. Firstly a device session is opened on the card located at bus 0, device 20 inside the LXI unit located at 192.168.1.100.
Page 29
Soft Front Panel The 60-760 Matrix can also be controlled graphically using the soft front panel which is supplied with the unit and accessible from the instrument homepage. An example of this is shown in Figure 4-1 below. For a description of the controls, refer to “Using the Soft Front Panel”...

Before attempting to control a card it is important to understand the switch architecture of that card and to know how to address the required switch. Each Pickering switch card is represented as a set of one or more sub-units, each sub-unit containing one or more switches.
Page 35
In the case of matrix sub-units, the XC and XO commands are useful, obviating the need for the user to calculate the bit position for a crosspoint in the matrix by allowing a point to be addressed by row and column address. LXI DUAL 24x8 HF MATRIX 60-760 Page 4.11...
