WARNING
Hazardous voltage.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Operate the generator set only when
all guards and electrical enclosures
are in place.
Grounding electrical equipment. Hazardous voltage can
cause severe injury or death. Electrocution is possible
whenever electricity is present. Ensure you comply with all
applicable codes and standards.
generator set, transfer switch, and related equipment and
electrical circuits. Turn off the main circuit breakers of all
power sources before servicing the equipment. Never contact
electrical leads or appliances when standing in water or on wet
ground because these conditions increase the risk of
electrocution.
WARNING
Hazardous voltage.
Backfeed to the utility system can
cause property damage, severe
injury, or death.
If the generator set is used for
standby power, install an automatic
transfer switch to prevent inadvertent
interconnection
normal sources of supply.
Electrical backfeed to the utility. Hazardous backfeed
voltage can cause severe injury or death. Install a transfer
switch in standby power installations to prevent the connection
of standby and other sources of power. Electrical backfeed
into a utility electrical system can cause severe injury or death
to utility personnel working on power lines.
NOTICE
Canadian installations only. For standby service connect
the output of the generator set to a suitably rated transfer
switch in accordance with Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1.

5.1 Introduction
Before installing the generator set, provide for electrical
connections through conduit to the transfer switch and
other accessories for the generator set. Route DC leads
in separate conduit from AC conductors. Route wiring to
the generator set through flexible connections.
Carefully install the selected generator set accessories.
Most field-installed accessory kits include installation
instructions.
Comply with applicable national and local codes when
installing a wiring system.
Use field-supplied wiring capable of withstanding
temperatures of 75_C (167_F). Size the wire according
to the length of run and 115% of the circuit current
(amperage) as directed by the National Electrical Coder
(NEC) in ANSI/NFPA 70. Refer to the wiring diagrams in
the Operation Manual. See List of Related Literature.
Note: Have a licensed electrician make the electrical
connections. All connections must comply with
state and local codes.
Some codes require the use of a disconnect switch.
Check the code requirements for your location and
install a disconnect switch, if required.
Install a 120 VAC receptacle for the generator set
battery charger and block heater, if equipped. Supply
power to the receptacle through a circuit that is powered
at all times, by the utility and by the generator set during
utility power outages.

5.2 Load Lead Connections
Note: Keep the load lead circuit away from the
generator fuel and exhaust system components.
Refer to the Operation Manual for generator connection
diagrams. See List of Related Literature.
Route the load leads of all installations through flexible
conduit from the generator end bracket to the junction
box. Feed load leads to the generator set junction box
through the back of the box. Route DC leads in separate
conduit from AC conductors.
Connect the load leads from the line circuit breaker in
the generator set junction box to the transfer switch
emergency power connection points. See Section 5.6
and refer to the transfer switch Installation Manual for
ATS connection instructions.
