This section describes how to service the wiper.
For information about servicing the ram, see
Form# 310525, 76 mm (3") Air-Powered Ram Mod-
ule.
Wiper Service
You have one of 3 kinds of follower plates with your
918405 ram. If you have follower plate kit 918408,
follow the procedure below to change the follower
wiper. If you have a stamped-metal follower plate
kit 918409 or 237702, refer to Form# 308049 for
service information.
To replace a worn or damaged wiper [(W) in Fig. 6]
follow this procedure:

Service
1. Raise the follower plate up out of the pail. Remove
the pail from the base. Wipe the fluid off the follow-
er plate.
2. Pry off the old wiper with a smooth pry bar.
3. Coat the wiper with a lubricant.
The lubricant should be compatible with the material to
be pumped. (Check with the material supplier for a
compatible lubricant.)
4. Fit a portion of the wiper into the groove on the
wiper plate, then stretch the wiper around the rest
of the plate.
5. Use a rubber mallet to pound the wiper all the way
around the follower plate until the wiper's ends are
butted tightly together.
