To select reverse rotation, release the variable speed
u
switch (1) depress the forward/reverse slider (2) on the left
hand side of the tool.
To lock the tool, set the forward/reverse slider (2) into the
u
centre position.
When changing the position of the forward/reverse slider (2),
make sure the variable speed switch (1) is released.
Note: The first time the tool is run after changing the direction
of rotation, you may hear a click on startu up. This is normal
and does not indicate a problem with the tool.
Note: The impacting noise that the tool makes is normal and
does not indicate a problem with the tool.
LED Work light (fig. E)
The LED work light (5) is located above the variable speed
u
switch (1).
The LED work light (5) will be activated when the variable
u
speed switch (1) is pressed.
Note: The LED work light is for lighting the immediated work
surface and is not intended to be used as a torch.
Drilling/screwdriving
Select forward or reverse rotation using the forward/re-
u
verse slider (2).
To switch the tool on, press the variable speed switch (1).
u
The tool speed depends on how far you press the variable
speed switch (1).
To switch the tool off, release the variable speed switch
u
(1).
Hints for optimum use
Drilling
Always apply a light pressure in a straight line with the drill
u
bit.
Just before the drill tip breaks through the other side of the
u
workpiece, decrease pressure on the tool.
Use a block of wood to back up workpieces that may
u
splinter.
Use spade bits when drilling large diameter holes in wood.
u
Use HSS drill bits when drilling in metal.
u
Use masonry bits when drilling in soft masonry.
u
Use a lubricant when drilling metals other than cast iron
u
and brass.
Make an indentation using a centre punch at the centre of
u
the hole to be drilled in order to improve accuracy.
Screwdriving
Always use the correct type and size of screwdriver bit.
u
If screws are difficult to tighten, try applying a small
u
amount of washing liquid or soap as a lubricant.
Always hold the tool and screwdriver bit in a straight line
u
with the screw

Maintenance
Your BLACK+DECKER tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool
care and regular cleaning.
Your charger does not require any maintenance apart from
regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance on the tool,
remove the battery from the tool. Unplug the charger before
cleaning it.
Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool and

charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
u
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
Regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove any dust
u
from the interior.
