Operating Instructions
Transmit SecureMail
In
addition
to
receiving
SecureMail into your own machine, you
also
can
send
confidential
documents to
other Muratec fax
machines
with
SecureMail.
Note:
For this operation to
work,
there are three
"musts":
You must be transmitting
to a
Muratec fax machine
with
SecureMail
reception capability.
You must know the SecureMail
mailbox
number
at the
remote
Muratec
fax machine to
which this
SecureMail
transmission will
go.
Someone must
already
have created this
mailbox
on
the remote
Muratec fax
machine.
To send a
SecureMail
transmission:
1. Insert
the document. Adjust the contrast and
resolution
as desired.
2.
Press
Communications Options twice
and
then
press
Mode/Enter.
3.
Use the
numeric
keypad to
enter
the
appropriate single-d igit SecureMail
mail-
box number at the remote Muratec fax
mach
ine.

4.
Enter
the
fax
number of
the remote
fax
machine to which you
're
sending. You
may enter
the
number by
using
the numeric
keypad
,
or you may use a
one-
touch number or a speed-dial
number. (For more information
on one-touch
and
speed-dial
numbers,
see pages 37-40.) Do not press Mode/Enter.
5.
What you do now depends
upon
when you
wish the SecureMail transmission
to begin.
(a.)
If you want
it
to begin
now,
proceed to step
7.
(b.) If
you want
to delay it
(perhaps
to take advantage of lower phone rates)
,
press Communications
Options, Mode/Enter.
6.
Use the
numeric
keypad
to
enter
the
day
of the month and
the
time for
the
SecureMail transmission.
Here,
we've
specified the
11th of
the
month
at 8:30
PM.

in
step 5, you chose an
immediate transmission
,
your fax
machine
will
begin dialing. If you requested a delayed
command as
in step

the
fax
will display
"Reserved"
on the
top
line of
the display; this means the

SetPasscode
For more
secure
incoming
communications,
a passcode system lets
you
protect
documents
set for
polling,
poll
documents
from a Muratec fax
machine
which
also uses a
passcode and operate in
a
closed
network
(see "Set Closed
Net-
work,"
page 54) with other
Muratec fax
machines.
Note:
This passcode is
not
the same
as the
access code for your machine's
Fax Retrieve System
(see
page
46).
Certainly
,
you may make the two
codes the same for ease in remembering
.
However, this could
compromise
the security of
your
machine, in that it
would
make
it
doubly
easier for
someone to
gain access to
your
fax
machine.
In other
words,
if
an
unauthorized user somehow
(looking
over your shoulder?) learns one
code and
-
even
if
only by experimentation
-
determines
the two
c.odes
are identical. It's probably safer
to make the
codes
different.
Under
normal
circumstances,
your fax
machine has
a
passcode
of
"0000";
this
means the passcode operation
is
off,
allowing calling fax
units to communicate
freely with yours. If you change the
passcode,
then
your
machine
can
communi-
cate on ly with Muratec fax machines; other
manufacturers'
fax machines
-
even those with protection code
systems
of their own
-
can't get through.
Note:
However,
of
course
,
if
you're
using
the Block
Junk
Fax feature, even
incomi
ng
calls which meet the passcode
test must
come from fax
machines
also having
appropriate
Subscriber
IDs.
See page 23
.
To set your fax
machine
's
passcode:
1. Press
--t/Program, J, 1,
5,
Mode/Enter.
Set
Passcode
Passcode
:
0000
2.
Use the numeric keypad to
enter
your passcode, then
press
Mode/Enter.
Note:
To turn
off
the passcode at any
time
,
reset
the
passcode to
"0000
."
