Operating
Instructions
Block Junk Fax
If
activated,
the
Block Junk
Fax feature guards your machine from
unauthorized
faxes
(so-called "junk
fax");
but,
first, please understand how this feature works,
so you can determine
if
it is right for you.
When
you'
ve activated Block Junk Fax and
a
fax call
arrives,
your
fax machine
checks
to see if
any
phone number in your autodialer matches
the last
four digits of
the remote fax machine 's Subscriber ID. If it
finds
no
such
match,
your fax
machine disconnects
the
call.
So,
before activating this
feature,
consider:
Not all fax
machine
owners
enter their phone numbers in their Subscriber
IDs.
Indeed,
some fax machines do
not
even
have
a Subscriber ID.
So,
using
Block Junk
Fax,
your machine would reject faxes from these units
.
If some of your autodialer
entries
end with
long distance
access codes,
Block Junk Fax will block out
calls
from those fax machines. (Those other
fax
users
won
'
t put your codes at the end of their Subscriber IDs, after all.)

Set ECM Mode
Ever
hear
static
on the
line during a phone
call?
It's a
real
nuisance.
But
what you
find a mere nuisance may
ruin
your attempts to communicate via fax, because
"line
noise"
can easily
disrupt
the flow of
data
from fax machine to fax
machine.
That's why your fax machine gives you the choice of operating in
Error
Correction Mode
(ECM).
When you've activated ECM and send a fax document
to another fax machine with ECM
activated,
your fax machine automatically
checks blocks of fax
data
as
it
sends; and,
if the ECM-using remote fax
machine
can't verify the
transmission,
your fax machine will resend
data
as necessary.
The
reverse occurs when, with ECM activated, your
machine
receives a fax
from
another ECM-using fax
machine.
While using ECM gives you a better chance of getting a fax document through a
troublesome phone
line,
it could slow down
the transmission
time
-
and increas-
ingly so
in proportion
to how
bad
the phone
line
is.
So
that's
why we give you
the
option of
turning
ECM on or off as you
require.
Note:
Not all
fax
machines have
ECM.
If you've activated ECM and then
transm it to a
fax machine which
doesn't have ECM
(or
has it but isn't
operating in ECM), there will be no change in the fax operation from a
usual, non-ECM transmission.
To change your ECM setting:
1. Press
---7/Program, J, 1, 2, Mode/Enter.
ECM Mode
:
Off
Program/Enter
2.
Press
---7/Program
to toggle between
on
and
off.
ECM Mode:
On
Program/Enter
3.
Press
Mode/Enter
to select your
choice.
