Chapter 7 Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Procedures for Endoscopic Instruments

Sterilization Procedures for
Endoscopic Instruments
Do not coil the endoscope's insertion tube, universal cord or
the video cable with a diameter of less than 10 cm. The
endoscope can be damaged if coiled too tightly.
For proper reprocessing results, do not coil the insertion tube
or the universal cord with a diameter of less than 40 cm. If
the diameter is less than 40 cm, it will be difficult to insert the
cleaning brush.
This chapter includes the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization procedures for
the endoscopic instruments that are related to the safety and health of patients.
Regarding the maintenance procedure of equipments for reprocessing, refer to
Chapter 8, "Maintenance Procedures of Equipments for Reprocessing".
ETO cap (MB-156) is normally sterilized with the endoscope.
Prior to cleaning, disinfection or sterilization, prepare the equipment shown in
Figure 7.1.
Use basins which are at least 25 (W) × 10 (H) × 50 (D) cm in
size and deep enough to allow the endoscope to be
completely immersed.
Carefully dry the electrical contacts of the video connector
after performing the procedure described in Section 7.8,
"Rinsing and drying after disinfection" on page 65. Otherwise,
equipment damage can result.
