Put on protective glasses, face shields, ear protection and gloves. When necessary, wear reflective vest. Avoid wearing loose clothing, jewelry, or other items that can catch on control levers or other parts of the machine.

To avoid travel and swing accidents: - Always look around before you travel or swing the machine.
  • Page 26 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TRAVELING ON SLOPE Before moving the machine, confirm which way to move travel pedals/levers for the corresponding di- rection you wish to go. Traveling on a slope may cause the machine to slip or to overturn, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

  • Page 28 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PROTECTING AGAINST THE FALL OF ROCKS AND LANDSLIDES The machine is equipped with a ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) and FOPS (Falling Objects Protective Structure) for the cab protection. - Do not install any cab lifting device to the protection structures.

  • Page 30 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS NEVER MOVE THE BUCKET OVER ANY ONE Never lift, move, or swing bucket above anyone or a truck cab. Serious injury or machine damage may result due to bucket load spill or due to collision with the bucket.

In the event, un- der exceptional conditions, it becomes necessary to handle materials, the following indications must be...
  • Page 32 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PAY ATTENTION WHEN DIGGING DEEPLY When digging deeply, pay special attention to pre- vent contacts of the attachment and the relevant hy- draulic hoses with the ground. • Do not swing the turret or the undercarriage when the attachment boom is fully lowered.
  • Page 33 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS E215C-E245C AVOID OPERATING THE CYLINDERS TO FULL STROKE Do not extend repeatedly the bucket and the arm cylinders full stroke with the purpose of cleaning the bucket from residual materials. This could cause damages to the cylinders. To remove residues from the bucket, use water under pressure or remove them manually.
  • Page 34 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SAFE MAINTENANCE Prior to service in the machine: - Park the machine on the level ground. - Lower the bucket to the ground. - Move the safety lever to the LOCK position. - Switch off the Auto-Idle.
  • Page 35 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS E215C-E245C WARN OTHERS OF SERVICE WORK Unexpected machine movement can cause serious injury. - Before performing any work on the machine, attach a maintenance in progress tag (see also SAFETY DECALS in this Chapter) . This tag can be applied o the left-hand control lever, safety lever or cab door.
  • Page 36 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DISPOSE OF WASTE IN THE APPROPRIATE MANNER Waste improperly disposed of represents a danger for the envinronment. Potentially dangerous waste used on the excavators includes lubricants, fuel, coolant, brake fluid, filters and batteries. - Used sealed containers when discharging fluids.
  • Page 37 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS E215C-E245C KEEP CLEAN THE MACHINE - Keep the machine clean and free of debris, excess or spilled lubricants, fuel and fluids. Use approved solvents, detergents and water to clean the machine and its components on a reg- ular basis.
  • Page 38 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS STARTING THE ENGINE WITH BOOSTER BATTERIES - The operator should be sitting in the driver’s seat to keep the machine under control when the engine starts. Starting the engine with booster batteries is a two man operation.
  • Page 39 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS E215C-E245C PREVENT BURNS After operation, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Hot water or steam is contained in the en- gine, radiator and heater lines. Skin contact with es- caping hot water or steam can cause severe burns.
  • Page 40 E215C-E245C SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AVOID HIGH-PRESSURE FLUIDS Fluids such as diesel fuel or hydraulic oil under pres- sure can penetrate the skin or eyes causing serious injury, blindness or death. - Avoid this hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines.
