DRIVING

Shift pattern
The manual transmission system has
five fully synchronised forward gears and
one reverse gear. The shift pattern as
illustrated, is found on the top of the gear
shift lever.
Never attempt to engage reverse gear
until the vehicle has completely stopped.
A slight pause between pressing the
clutch pedal and moving into reverse
gear is desirable to allow all the rotating
components to stop and avoid gear
clashing.
In order to shift into R (reverse), you must
first lift up the ring on the shift lever and
hold it until reverse gear is engaged.
Operating notes
•
When shifting from one gear to another, ensure you press the clutch pedal down
fully to avoid clashing and possible chipping of the transmission gears.
•
Change the gears with moderate effort to allow time for the transmission
synchronisers to work properly.
•
Whenever reverse is selected with the ignition on, the reversing lamps will operate.
•
Do not drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal as damage to the clutch
may result.
•
When stopped on an incline do not hold the vehicle by slipping the clutch. Use
the brakes.
•
When climbing steep grades, change down to a lower gear before the engine starts
to labour. To maintain safe speeds on a steep downgrade and to reduce brake wear
and overheating, change into a lower gear before starting the decent.
•
Do not over speed the engine when changing down to the next lowest gear.
Clutch pedal
If under normal vehicle operation, the clutch pedal develops abnormal behaviour,
contact your Holden Dealer.
