WELCOME educational experience. PC-free embedded computing provides one-touch access to a diverse suite of SMART applications—Notebook lessons, amp workspaces, lab gamification activities and whiteboard—and collaborative tools, such as wireless screen sharing and a web browser. There’s no need for wires, cables or manual software updates.

CHAPTER 1 WELCOME Pens with erasers The display comes with two pens with erasers attached. The display’s bottom frame includes magnetic holders for the pens. Removing a pen from the holders activates it, and you can use the pen to draw or erase digital ink. CAUTION When you return the pen to the magnetic holder, make sure it’s centered in its holder to keep it from falling and being damaged.

Using SMART Learning Suite on connected computers In addition to the iQ appliance, the display comes with a license for SMART Learning Suite, which you or your organization’s system administrators can install on computers that you connect to the display. CHAPTER 2 GETTING STARTED WITH THE DISPLAY NOTES To interact with content, connect a USB cable to the appropriate USB Type-B receptacle on the connector panel (as shown in the above diagrams). Your organization’s installers might have connected cables to the display or iQ appliance and run the cables behind a wall or under the floor to a desk or table where you can place your computer.
Make sure your hands, arms and any loose clothing don’t touch the display surface as you write, draw and erase. If you’re viewing a connected computer’s input, SMART Ink enables you to write or draw in digital ink over applications, files, folders, websites and any other open window on the computer.
CHAPTER 2 GETTING STARTED WITH THE DISPLAY To write or draw in digital ink 1. Pick up one of the display’s pens. 2. Use the pen to write or draw in digital ink. NOTE The Pen ID feature enables you to use the black and red pens at the same time and customize their colors and other settings independently.

Some displays have the Library disabled. The Library must be enabled before you can save or continue a session. Teachers can also download SMART Notebook Player for mobile devices to share SMART Notebook files to the board and interact with the content from anywhere in the classroom. Provide any feedback about SMART Notebook Player to SMART at smarttech.uservoice.com.

Where has the Flash® content gone? The display no longer supports Flash content. SMART Notebook Player displays a placeholder when there is Flash content on a page. Installing SMART Notebook Player on your mobile device You can download and install the app by visiting the Apple App Store. SMART Notebook Player is currently available only for iPhone with iOS 10 or alter operating system software. USING APPS ON THE DISPLAY How do I sign in to SMART Notebook Player? Sign in with the same Google™ or Microsoft® account used to sign in to SMART Learning Suite. How did my SMART Notebook files appear in Notebook Player? SMART Notebook files were shared to the board using the Share to Board feature in SMART Notebook 17 software or later.
USING APPS ON THE DISPLAY SMART amp is an easy-to-use cloud-based application that enables teachers and students to collaborate in real time. SMART amp integrates with Google Drive and G Suite for Education, which simplifies deployment and account management for your school. NOTE Displays with older models of the iQ appliance don’t include Workspaces.
Showing content on the display To show content on the display 1. Make sure the input source is OPS/HDMI (see Using SMART Learning Suite on connected computers on page 12). 2. Connect a computer to the iQ appliance’s HDMI in and USB receptacles.
Downloading SMART software SMART Learning Suite includes SMART Ink. When you download and install SMART Learning Suite on the connected computer, SMART Ink enables you to write and draw in digital ink over applications, files, folders websites and any other open window on your computer.
CHAPTER 3 USING APPS ON THE DISPLAY Sharing content from the Chrome™ browser to the display You can use the Chrome browser and Google Cast™ (a browser extension for Chrome) to share the desktop or a specific browser tab from your computer. NOTES Use Chrome version 52 and later to share content.

CHAPTER 3 USING APPS ON THE DISPLAY NOTE Not all mobile devices have been optimized for screen casting. Make sure Power Saving mode is off on your Android mobile device. Power Saving mode can limit the mobile device’s processing power, which could affect the performance of the Cast Screen feature.

Compare the version number of the current iQ system software with the version number of the upgrade file on the USB drive. Follow the installation instructions provided on SMART’s website when updating the iQ system software. TIPS Make sure the USB drive is FAT formatted.
There is an issue with Activities. Make sure the display is connected to a network. See the SMART Board 6000 series interactive displays installation and maintenance guide (smarttech.com/kb/171167). If Activities can’t visit secure (https) websites, make sure the display’s date and time are correct.

Installing the app and starting it for the first time You can download and install the SMART kapp app by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play, or you can install the app on your mobile device by scanning your display’s QR code.
Installing the app To install the app 1. Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play on your mobile device and search for SMART kapp. Start the QR code scanning app on your mobile device, and then hold your mobile device’s rear-facing camera over the device’s QR code to scan it.
On an Android mobile device, tap Menu , select Settings, and then select Tutorial. Connecting and disconnecting the app The SMART kapp app enables you to connect your mobile device to a display and then do the following: View notes you write on the display on your mobile device...
When you connect an Android mobile device to the display, an icon appears in the device’s notification area. This icon indicates when the mobile device is connected to the display: Connected Disconnected When you disconnect, the SMART kapp app takes a final snapshot of the display if the content has changed since the last snapshot. smarttech.com/kb/171166...
Continuing a previous session You can easily pick up from where you left off in a previous SMART kapp session. You can continue one of your previous sessions from the last snapshot taken in a session. It doesn’t matter if your previous session was on a SMART kapp board or a SMART Board interactive display.
APPENDIX A USING THE SMART KAPP APP To continue a previous session on an Android mobile device 1. If you’re currently in a session, disconnect (see Disconnecting on page 54). 2. Tap Sessions The Sessions screen appears. 3. For the session you want to continue, tap Menu and select Continue.

NOTE You can share notes only as long as the SMART kapp app is running on your mobile device and the device is connected to a display.

Securing shared sessions In the SMART kapp app, you can add password security to protect your sessions before you send a link to share them.
