    Warning! TP3000 radios and accessories are not user-serviceable, any unauthorized repair or substitution of parts invalidates the product warranty. To have a TP3000 radio serviced, return it to your regional Tait office. The radio meets published specifications for protection against entry by water and dust. It satisfies stringent regulatory requirements before it leaves the factory.
  • Page 4 Use a Philips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the belt clip to the back panel. Remove the battery by pressing the ‘PUSH’ button and raise the bottom of the battery cleanly away from the radio. Optional. Remove the antenna by turning it counter-clockwise. It is easier to remove the front cover if the antenna is removed.
  • Page 5 Use a Torx T8 driver to remove the six screws that secure the chassis to the front panel. An O-ring accompanies each screw. Flip the radio over and peel away the logo label to reveal the two screws hidden underneath. Use a Torx T8 driver to remove the two screws that secure the top of the front panel to the chassis.

    Use a pair of tweezers to loosen, but not fully remove, the connector that locks the FPC cable to the RF board. Work the connector loose by gently lifting first the one side of the connector then the other. When disconnecting an FPC cable from a board, do not apply excessive pressure to the connector.

    Secure each screw or nut to exactly 0.3 N•m (2.5 lbf.in). Do not under or over-torque. Make sure the replacing front cover has a rubber gasket attached; Tait recommend replacing the gasket if the front cover is reused. Follow the instructions provided to install the new front cover.
  • Page 9 Align the front cover to the chassis by using the edge on the right-hand-side as a guide; use a pair of tweezers or your fingertip to press the speaker FPC connector socket, and the display FPC connector socket, to their corresponding plugs on the RF board. The plug clicks when it is fully connected.

    The equipment required to validate the environment water sealing on a TP3000 radio is the Pressure Tester shown below. Operation Select the 6 mm test nozzle. Connect the test nozzle to the end of the pressure tester. Validate the pressure tester against a flat surface: Pump in some air.
  • Page 12 Locate the pressure vent hole. Firmly hold the pressure seal against the pressure vent hole on the radio. Slowly pump until the pressure reaches slightly above 80mmHg. The pressure may initially decrease a little as the speaker diaphragm and keypads re-settle. The pressure should then remain constant.

    Once the radio is on and startup is complete, connect the radio to a computer via the programming cable (T03-00361-AAAA). Launch Tait TP3000 Model Conversion Tool and click the Read button to read the radio model information. Select the appropriate Radio Model from the drop-down menu on the right, and click the ‘Write’...

    Programming the radio datafile Launch Tait TP3000 programming application and click the ‘New’ button. Select the appropriate radio model and click the ‘OK’ button to create a default datafile. Alternatively, click the ‘Open’ button to load an existing radio data file with matching model and frequency range settings.
