Recommended Maintenance Schedule

Service Item
Engine
Check the engine oil before each use.
Oil—Check
Drain and refill the engine crankcase with
fresh oil after the first five hours of

operation. Thereafter, change every 50

hours (25 hours in dusty conditions or in
high temperatures) or yearly.
Housing
Remove built-up grass clippings and dirt.
Check the blade and the engine mounting
Fasteners
fasteners. Tighten loose fasteners.
Clean or replace the cartridge every 25
Air Filter—
hours or each mowing season. Replace it
Cartridge
more frequently in dusty or dirty
conditions.
Sharpen or replace the blade; maintain it
Blade
more frequently if the edge dulls quickly
in rough or sandy conditions.
Check the stopping time every 50 hours
or before each mowing season. The
Blade Brake
blade must stop within three seconds of
releasing the bail; if it does not, see your
Authorized Service Dealer for repair.
Self–propelled
Adjust the cable and grease the

rear-height adjustor brackets.
Check for leaks and/or a deteriorating
Fuel System
fuel hose. Replace parts if necessary.
Remove grass clippings and debris from
Belt Cover
under the belt cover.
Inspect and clean. Replace the spark

plug if necessary.
Clean debris from the engine air cooling
Cooling System
fins and the starter. Clean more
frequently in dirty conditions.
Empty the fuel tank before repairs as
