Sludge Conditioner (p/n 166) can be used by circulating the recommended amount through the furnace for one week to help clean some of the corrosion from inside the water jacket before ushing, draining and re lling with water and the correct amount of MolyArmor 350.

Some distributors call this type of antifreeze PGI (shorthand for Propylene Glycol Industrial grade).

Smoke in the hopper is an indication that the air ow through the furnace is restricted, obstructed or di erent than it should be. CAUTION Operating for extended periods of time with air ow through the furnace restricted (i.e., smoke in the hopper) can damage components in the furnace.

Remove ash as described in the Ash Removal section. Scrape all surfaces in the rebox, paying close attention to the corners. If needed, the aerator and burn chamber can be removed for a more thorough cleaning (see Aerator and Burn Chamber).

To inspect the heat exchangers, remove the chimney transition cover on the back of the furnace and open the rebox door.

Use the cleaning rod from both the front and the back of the furnace, working from top to bottom of each passageway in the heat exchanger. To clean combustion air holes, use a suitably sized drill bit, round wire brush or other suitable tool to remove any deposits.

If during a power outage, a high temperature condition is detected in the burner auger area, the thermal valve is designed to release a small amount of water into the burner auger area to cool the area.

Do not use the furnace until these areas have been thoroughly cleaned.
