Auger
When engaged, the auger rotates and draws snow into the auger housing.
Chute Assembly
Snow drawn into the auger housing is discharged out the chute assembly.
Choke Control
The choke control aids in starting the engine. For
information on choke usage, see Starting The Engine later in
this section.
Recoil Starter & Starter Handle
This motor is fitted with a recoil action pull start and a mitten grip handle for easy
access while wearing gloves or mittens.
Key
The key is a safety device. It must be fully inserted in order
for the engine to start. Remove the key when the snow
thrower is not in use.
NOTE: Do not turn the key in an attempt to start the engine.
Doing so may cause it to break.
Electric Starter Button
Pressing the electric starter button engages the engine's electric starter when
plugged into a 120V power source.
Electric Starter Outlet
Requires the use of a three-prong outdoor extension cord and a 120V power source/
wall outlet.
Primer
Pressing the primer forces fuel directly into engine's
carburetor to aid in cold-weather starting. Refer to the
starting instructions in the Operation section of this manual
for proper primer usage. The image to the right corresponds
with the label on the engine identifying the primer.
Oil Fill
Remove oil cap to add oil. Refer to the Maintenance & Service section for checking
and adding oil instructions.
Gasoline Cap
Remove gas cap to add fuel. Unit runs on regular gas.
NOTE: This unit may include a fuel plug, which is only used during assembly to keep
dirt and debris out of fuel tank. Discard the fuel plug before filling the fuel tank.
Throttle Control
The throttle control is located on the engine. It regulates the speed of the engine
and will shut off the engine when placed in the Stop
OPERATION
position.

Clean-Out Tool
Never use your hands to clear a clogged chute assembly. Shut off engine and
remain behind handles until all moving parts have stopped before using the
clean-out tool to clear the chute assembly.
The chute clean-out tool is conveniently fastened to the rear of the auger housing
with a mounting clip. Should snow and ice become lodged in the chute assembly
during operation, proceed as follows to safely clean the chute assembly and chute
opening:
1. Release both the Auger Control and the Drive Control.
2. Stop the engine by removing the key.
3. Remove the clean-out tool from the clip which secures it to the rear of the
auger housing.
4. Use the shovel-shaped end of the clean-out tool to dislodge and scoop any
snow and ice which has formed in and near the chute assembly.
5. Refasten the clean-out tool to the mounting clip on the rear of the auger
housing, reinsert the key and start the snow thrower's engine.
6. While standing in the operator's position (behind the snow thrower), engage
the auger control for a few seconds to clear any remaining snow and ice from
the chute assembly.
Before Starting Engine
Read, understand, and follow all instructions and warnings on the machine
and in this manual before operating.
Check Engine Oil
The unit was shipped with oil in the engine. Check oil level before each operation to
ensure adequate oil in the engine. For further instructions, refer to the Maintenance
& Service section of this manual.
NOTE: Be sure to check the engine on a level surface with the engine
stopped.
1. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and wipe the dipstick clean.
2. Insert the cap/dipstick into the oil filler neck, turn the cap 1/4 turn until fully
seated.
NOTE: On some engines, a threaded cap/dipstick may exist instead of a 1/4
turn cap as described above. In this instance do not fully tighten the cap to
check the oil level. Simply rest the cap on the threads to check for proper oil
level.
3. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick. If the level is low, slowly add oil (5W-30,
with a minimum classification of SF/SG) until oil level registers between high
(H) and low (L).
NOTE: Do not overfill. Overfilling with oil may result in engine smoking, hard
starting or spark plug fouling.
4. Replace and tighten cap/dipstick firmly before starting engine.
