Troubleshooting Guide

Before calling for service, check through the chart below for probable causes of the problems you experience while
using this unit.
Symptom
Low hum or buzz sound.
No sound from one
speaker.
No sound is heard.
RECORD button cannot
be pressed.
Low volume or weak sound
with mute intervals
Playing is not possible.
Poor playing at a particular
part.
Sound is distorted.
Caution:
Since the unit incorporates a microcomputer, it may not operate correctly because of external noise, etc. If this hap-
pens, turn the power switch OFF and disconnect the power cord, then reconnect the power cord, turn it ON again and
restart operations.
Probable cause(s)
Power line of fluorescent lamps
is run from the same power
outlet as that of this unit.
Speakers are connected wrong.
Volume is set to "minimum".
Erase-prevention tab is
removed.
Head is dirty.
Pinch roller or capstan is dirty.
... Disc is inserted upside down.
... Disc is dirty.
... PAUSE button is pressed.
... Incompatibly-sized disc is
inserted.
... Lens has dew on it or is wet
with moisture.
... Disc is dirty.
... Disc is scratched.
... Needle is dirty.
... Record is dirty.

Suggested remedy
Place this unit as far away from other
electric or electronic devices as possible.
After checking speaker line, connect
correctly again.
Adjust the volume properly.
Cover the slot with adhesive tape.
Clean the head.
Refer to "MAINTENANCE" on page 5.
... Insert disc with label side up.
... Clean the disc with soft tissue.
... Press play button to release pause.
... Use compatibly-sized disc.
... Press POWER button and start playing
after 20 to 30 minutes.
... Clean the disc with soft cloth.
... Scratched part cannot be played.
(Be careful to maintain disc.)
... Clean the needle with a soft brush.
... Clean the record with soft cloth.
