6.1 SELF-PROPEL DRIVE ADJUSTMENTS

An adjustment to the self-propel system should be made whenever a
new cable is installed.
SPEED SELECT CONTROL CABLE
ADJUSTMENT
1. Shut the engine off and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
3. If the grass catcher bag is installed, remove it from the mower.
4. Using a piece of scrap material, broom handle or other object
wider that the handle bars, lift and support the rear cover to gain
access to the rear of the mower. See Figure 6-1.

5. Remove the two bolts securing the transmission access cover to
the mower.
6. Remove the transmission access cover and remove any debris
that has collected on the transmission. See Figure 6-2.

7. Loosen the clamp securing the speed select cable to the
transmission. See Figure 6-2.
8. Move the speed select control all the way back. See Figure 6-3.
