Ranger3 is a high-speed 3D camera intended to be the vision component in a machine vision system.
Ranger3 makes measurements on the objects that passes in front of the camera, and sends the measurement results to a PC for further processing. The measurements can be started and stopped from the PC, and triggered by encoders and photoelectric switches in the vision system.
When a SICK device is used in combination with a laser, all requirements for laser products and laser systems according to the laser safety standards En/IEC 60825–1 and 21 CFR 1040.10/11 must be fulfilled.
If the camera is used with a laser, the power to the laser must be turned off before any maintenance is performed. Failure to turn the laser power off when maintaining the camera may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
Risk of injury and damage due to electrical current!
Incorrect grounding of the device can result in equipotential bonding currents between the device and other grounded devices in the system. This can lead to the following dangers and faults:
Remedial measures:
The PC requirements for the vision system depend on your application. The following is recommended for minimal operation:
The latest version of the Ranger3 SDK can be downloaded from CK Support Portal:
Use the camera together with a line-projecting laser that illuminates the object to be measured.
NOTICE
Before the camera can be used in a machine vision system, it has to be configured. This is done by adjusting parameters in the Ranger3 Studio software until the image result is satisfactory.
Ranger3 complies with the GenICam™ standard, which provides a generic programming interface for different kinds of cameras and devices.
The camera contains no user serviceable parts inside. The warranty of the device will be void if opened. The device must not be opened by other parties than SICK.
In case of unit failure, please contact SICK or the SICK representative that delivered the unit for further instructions.
More product information is available on the device homepage, www.sick.com/Ranger3.
