TROUBLESHOOTING

Troubleshooting
If the unit does not start, or runs erratically, the problem may be solved by reference to
the chart below.
Engine will not start
Spark plug (no spark)
Ignition system (no spark)
Engine won't start - Good
compression, sufficient fuel (with
spark)
Poor compression, sufficient fuel
(with spark)
No fuel in carburettor (with spark)
Insufficient power
Blockages
Overheating

Possible cause
Electrode is wet or fouled
Carbon deposit on electrode
Cracked insulator
STOP SWITCH in OFF position
Too small or large electrode gap
Burned electrode
Coil burned out, coil insulation
failure
Break in coil wire, transistor
burned out
Engine flooded
Excessively thick fuel
Use of incorrect fuel
Excessive wear on cylinder,
piston, rings
Loose spark plug
No fuel in tank
Loose fuel line fitting
Clogged fuel line
Plugged air vent in fuel tank
Clogged air filter
Carbon build up in muffler
Fuel line/passage clogged
Piston seizure, diaphragm
inoperative
Water in fuel
Excessively lean fuel mixture
Carbon deposits on piston
Remedy
Dry spark plug or replace
Clean spark plug
Replace spark plug
Switch to ON
Adjust gap to 0.7mm (0.025")
Replace spark plug
